Kolkata Knight Riders are one of the most celebrated teams with two titles under their belt, the KKR side was one of the most consistent and feared sides during the captaincy rein of Gautam Gambhir always in contention for the title or play-off places. This year though before the suspension of the league KKR displayed very patchy form under the leadership of English world cup winning skipper Eoin Morgan. The IPL 2022 is edition is about to see two more teams being added and there is going to be a mega auction as all the sides will compete to sign the best talents for their team. In this list we look at five player’s KKR could target as the captaincy candidates.

Shubman Gill – India

Shubman Gill is one of the most promising talents to come out of India and the 21 year old Punjab batsman has already been touted as a future great from India. Gill hasn’t had a great season for KKR before the suspension of the league but there is no doubting his talent. KKR is sure to retain him next year and he could be the early candidate to lead the side.

Steve Smith – Australia

One of the best fits for the Shah Rukh Khan owned sides will be the talents of Australian run machine. Smith is currently part of the Delhi side but could be let go before the mega auction next year, and KKR could capitalize on the situation and make a play for Steve Smith.

Suryakumar Yadav – India

The Mumbai Indians ace was part of the KKR unit for a few years and was one of the best finishers for the side. He rejoined Mumbai in 2018 and has won two back to back titles and also played a huge role in it which has seen him earn an India spot.

David Warner – Australia

The former SRH skipper moved whole of India with his heartbroken gesture during the game against RR once he was benched for the game after being stripped of his captaincy. Warner has led the SRH side to an IPL title in 2016 and if picked by KKR he could be hungry to lead the SRK owned side to their third title and prove his captaincy credentials

Prithvi Shaw – India

Prithvi Shaw could possibly be released by the Delhi team ahead of the next auctions. One of the teams that could look to take advantage of this will be KKR and they could lure the former Under-19 world cup winning skipper to their side to form a dream opening combination with Shubman Gill and also lead their side.
