Shakespeare once said what’s in a name but with various astrological and numerical factors coming into play as many people like to change the spelling of their names. The recent West Indies versus Sri Lanka test match has seen Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dicwella raise eyebrows as fans spotted something different with the diminutive Sri Lanka wicket keeper batsman.

The Story as it developed –

Sri Lanka who is touring the West Indies is playing a keenly fought test match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium at Antigua. During the course of the test match many fans were intrigued to catch a glimpse of Sri Lankan wicket keeper Niroshan Dicwella drops the letter ‘K’  from his name. The 27 year old who has played 42 test matches for Sri Lanka was previously known as Niroshan Dickwella.

Sri Lanka in command –

Sri Lanka has taken a commanding position in the first test versus West Indies at Antigua . West Indies have been set a target of 375 to win with one day remaining in the test match. Pathum Nissanka scored a memorable century to give Sri Lanka a huge lead after West Indies were bowled out for 271 in their first innings.

Dicwella missed yet another century-

The change in name hasn’t changed the fortunes of the Sri Lankan wicket keeper batsman as he fell four short of his first test century after he was bowled for 96 off the bowling of Kemar Roach. This is yet another occasion when Dicwella has missed a test century after being out in the  nineties before. Dicwella has scored 17 half centuries for Sri Lanka and is still looking for that elusive century.

Only time will reveal if the change in name factor works for the often expressive and demonstrative wicket keeper from Sri Lanka who is now known as Niroshan Dicwella.
