Mumbai Indians are the most celebrated team in the history of the Indian Premier League with five titles in their kitty. Mumbai have won the title the last two times consecutively and the Rohit Sharma led side will be the team to beat again as they embark to do something which hasn’t done in the IPL before which is to win the IPL thrice in a row. The Rohit Sharma and Mahela Jayawardene combine have worked out pretty well so far and the men in blue and gold have a real chance to make this season their own again with a possible 6th title up for grabs.

Strengths- A team which remains un-tinkered with-

Mumbai Indians will walk into the season with all of their big players intact in the squad. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan who have tasted Indian team dressing room will raring to go again with the same verve and vigor that they showed last year. Added to the fact that Mumbai have Quinton De Kock and Rohit Sharma open the innings with the Pandya Brothers and Pollard along with a possible long rope to Jimmy Neesham sometime during the tournament, Mumbai also have Rahul Chahar, Bumrah and Boult in their bowling line –up with each possessing a good talent to win the game on their own.

Weakness – Complacency and Slow Start

There is a stat which could worry Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians as they have always started the tournament with a loss and Mumbai certainly will be guarding against Complacency. The men in blue and gold will also look to maintain a fast start and win as much game as possible in the first half of the tournament as conventional record shows Mumbai Indians as team takes time to peak and then makes a dash for the play-off places towards the end of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma without doubt is the greatest IPL captain off all time and the 33 year old Mumbaikar could end up with more trophies under his kitty for the Mumbai Indians before he decided to hang up his boots. With the kind of squad Mumbai possesses and the backup players like Piyush Chawla and Adam Milne in the reserves, Mumbai Indians have certainly every ingredient required to win their 6th title and create history by becoming the first team in the league to win three titles in a row.

Threats- Injuries to key players

Mumbai might have the best squad but there is a growing concern with some of the players being injury prone. Hardik Pandya too has just started to bowl in the international arena and Rohit Sharma will be wary not to over use him with the ball as Pandya is one of the players who are prone to injury. Rohit Sharma too was injured for few games last year which led to him missing some games for India in the Australia series.
