Steve Smith, Tom Curran, Sam Billings find a place in Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021
Delhi Capitals have a lot to look forward to this year as they will want to capitalize on their maiden IPL final appearance as they took to the table for IPL auctions 2021. Delhi Capitals came into the auction with most of their core players being retained and were looking to add some players where they felt they needed cover for this year of the IPL and perhaps make another title challenge under the tutelage of Ricky Ponting and the leadership of youngster Shreyas Iyer.
Delhi sets the early pace
Delhi Capitals were quick off the mark when they bought former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith for INR.2.2 Crore. Delhi also welcomed back former pace bowling spearhead Umesh Yadav for a base price of INR 1 Crore. Umesh Yadav began his IPL career with Delhi in 2010 before he moved on to Kolkata Knight Riders before he moved to RCB and was let go before IPL auctions 2021.
Domestic players find favor with Delhi
The names of Ripal Patel and Lukman Meriwala might not be household ones but the two players were picked for INR 20 Lakhs rupees, Delhi also got Kerala’s explosive wicket-keeper batsman Vishnu Vinod who last played for RCB in 2017 to make a comeback to the IPL scheme of things after 4 years. Vishnu Vinod was picked for INR 20 Lakh while M. Siddhart was picked for INR 20 lakh.
English influx at Delhi
Delhi capitals got the services of all-rounder Tom Curran for INR 5.25 Crore and wicket-keeper batsman Sam Billings for INR 2 Crore. The English duo will head into IPL 2021 with a view to help Delhi achieve their first ever title after falling short last year at the final hurdles when they lost to Mumbai in the final.
Ricky Ponting and bunch may seem a happy bunch especially after landing the huge name of Steve Smith which will send shivers down the spines of the opposition bowlers at the prospect of a fit and firing and hungry Steve Smith donning the Delhi colors.
