The intriguing story of Harpreet Brar the man everyone is talking about
Life can be unpredictable and that same unpredictability is pretty much visible in sports as one day it can take one person to the top and the other day it can level the player to the ground. Indian Premier League over the years has made sure it has thrown such names over the years that people can recognize from absolute obscurity. The story of Harpreet Brar is one such where he was on the verge of leaving the country only for a timely intervention to change his mind and pursue his dream of playing cricket with the best of the players and rub his shoulders with the elite of the game.
Canada’s loss is India’s gain –
When KL Rahul yesterday announced that Punjab had made three changes many were curious to know about the changes in store and the name of Harpreet Singh Brar was one of them. The 25 year old from Moga in Punjab made sure that he made his call up to the side special as he wielded his bat to good use by scoring a quick fire 25 runs from 17 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes, as the second six of his innings was struck of the last ball to take Punjab to 179. If he wasn’t picked in the IPL way back in 2019 he was supposed to leave for Canada and was nearly on his way out to realize his dreams. Speaking to the media once he said “I had decided that if I fail to break into the Punjab senior team or get an IPL contract this year, I will move to my sister in Canada for good. Paaji, bahut frustration tha (it was extremely frustrating, brother), Destiny had at least some luck in store for me”
Harpreet Brar and his moment of reckoning-
Bangalore had lost the wicket of the rampaging Devdutt Padikkal in pursuit of 180 and Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar all of a sudden found the pitch difficult to score runs on, that’s when Rahul got the spin duo of Harpreet Brar and Ravi Bishnoi to the bowling crease. Harpreet made the first move as he got the key wicket of Virat Kohli for 35 when he had the RCB skipper bowled, and followed it up with a beauty as the very next ball he got rid of the dangerous Glenn Maxwell to change the course of the game only he wasn’t done yet. AB De Villiers is a huge name and the RCB fans were breathing easy after all what could go wrong till ABD was around? But Harpreet had other plans as he tempted ABD to play an uppish drive only for KL Rahul to take the catch and get rid of the dangerous South African for three and the 25 year old turbaned Punjabi spinner had changed the course of the game and his career in a span of seven balls.
Harpreet Brar has played 4 IPL games so far and interestingly enough those three wickets yesterday were his first wickets in the bank in his short IPL career. at the end of the game Virat Kohli was all smiles as he patted the young spinner on his back for his work on the field but Harpreet Singh knows the luck will only smile on him when he gets to wear the India jersey and for that he needs to perform on a consistent basis and from the talent he showed yesterday he sure can achieve that dream if he keeps making the right noises on the pitch during the IPL
