Cheteshwar Pujara scores 2nd successive ton for Sussex as fans go crazy on Twitter

Indian test number 3, Cheteshwar Pujara has been racking in the runs for his side Sussex. The Royal London Championships which is the 50 over format tournament in England has seen the 34 year old rack up the numbers in a format where he hasn’t been given much importance. After scoring a 70 ball ton against Warwickshire just a few days earlier, the man from Saurashtra scored a blistering century against Surrey on Sunday to lead his team to a huge win at his home ground at Hove.

Career best knock for Pujara –

Surrey won the toss and chose to bowl first, as the visitors were deeply depleted and fielded a young side. The young team was quick to make immediate impact when they had the hosts at 9 for 2 with the wickets of Ali Orr for 4 and Harrison Ward for 5. That’s when Tom Clark and Pujara joined forces and added 205 runs for the 3rd wicket. Both the batters took toll of an inexperienced Surrey attack. Clark was out for 104 off 106 balls with 13 hits to the fence. Pujara playing his 108th List A game scored his career best knock of 174 off 131 balls with 20 fours and 5 sixes. This enable Sussex to reach a massive 378 on the board.

Surrey fold cheaply to lose the game by a huge margin –

Chasing 379 was never going to be easy for Surrey as they saw their batsmen falter under the weight of such a huge chase. Ryan Patel with 65 off 56 balls and Tom Lawes with 57 not out from 60 balls and Ben Geddes and Sheridon Gumps with 12 each were the top scorers for Surrey team which collapsed to 162 all out. This gave Surrey a win by 216 runs to move into 3rd place of the Group A table, while Surrey are in the 7th place in the table.
