Revealed – Reason why 2 runs were deducted from India’s final total against Ireland

Indian cricket fans are just over 24 hours away from witnessing the rescheduled 5th test against England. 1st July is the day when Ben Stokes’s England side which has been playing aggressive cricket take on India. The Indian team holds a 2-1 series lead, but amidst all that there is still talks of the amazing T20 match between India and Ireland. The match took place on Tuesday, which was the 2nd and final game of the short 2 match T20 series. Ireland gave a mighty scare to India before losing the game by mere 4 runs. One incident though has come to light which none noticed during the course of the game.

The story as it happened –

India won the toss and chose to bat first, and it was a game to remember for 2 fringe players. Sanju Samson scored his maiden T20 fifty for India before falling for 77, while the day clearly belonged to Deepak Hooda. The 28 year old scored a century to become the 4th Indian player to do so. At the end of the innings, the Indian scored read 227 for 7, but when Ireland began its chase it showed 225 for 7.

Reason why two runs were cut from India’s total revealed –

Many fans missed this, but the reason has now come to light. It so happened that Hardik Pandya did not run after hitting the ball towards the long on fence. The official broadcasters had the belief that the Indians had run two runs. They proceeded to add those 2 runs to the Indian total, that’s where the confusion began. The whole confusion was cleared at the mid innings break, when the broadcasters rectified their mistake.

India holds their nerves to win the game –

chasing 226 to win, the Irish players came out with a clear intent at the Malahide cricket ground. The small ground had already seen a lot of big hits from the Indian team batting unit. Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie then scored runs at a quick pace to put the Indian bowlers under pressure. The match eventually boiled down to Ireland needing 17 off 6, which became 8 from 3, but Umran Malik held his nerves and India won the game by 4 runs. Although India won the match and the series, Ireland won a lot of hearts for their spirit.
