Watch! Ajinkya Rahane reprimands Yashasvi Jaiswal before sending him off the field

In days when everything is put under the microscope, the players have to keep their emotions in check. The young players in particular are always looked at with a keen eye. People look to see how they behave on the field of play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal gives opposition the lip –

Mumbai’s latest sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal is a talent that many are keeping their eyes on. The young left hander has been tremendous this season for Mumbai with the bat. He scored two double centuries in his debut in the Duleep Trophy for the West Zone. During the final day’s play, he was seen giving the South Zone batters plenty of lip service.

Rahane sends him off the field –

West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane, was seen having a word with the youngster while trying to bring calm. The South Zone batters were seen gesticulating towards Jaiswal. Even the on-field umpires jumped into calm the situation down. A few overs later, Jaiswal was seen again having a go at the batters. At this point, Rahane asked Jaiswal to leave the field. The youngster did not look pleased and was seen talking to himself while walking off.

Rahane and Jaiswal break their silence –

Ajinkya Rahane is known for his no nonsense approach and captaincy skills. Post the game the 34 year old said “Respecting opponents, umpires, and match officials is a must at all times. That is how cricket is played. While Specific treatments are necessary in certain circumstances. That situation had to be handled in that way; I think it was the appropriate call.” Jaiswal too had his say and he opined “Whatever Ajju bhai says, I take that seriously and try to follow it.”


West Zone wins the title for 19th time –

It was a day to remember for West Zone though, as they got their hands on the Duleep Trophy for the 19th time. Chasing 529 to win, the South Zone batters were bundled out for a mere 234 on the board, to give West Zone a massive 294 run win.

Shams Mulani comes to the party –

Doing the damage with the ball for West Zone was 25 year old left arm spinner, Shams Mulani. The Mumbai based player who is rising up the ranks picked 4 for 51 in the 2nd innings. He began by dismissing Ricky Bhui for 13, and followed it up with the key wicket of Rohan Kunnummal. Rohan was the top scorer for South Zone with 93 off 100 balls with 14 fours and a six. Mulani then picked the wickets of T. Ravi Teja for 53 and Basil Thampi for a duck.

Match to remember for Yashasvi Jaiswal –

After falling for a single in the 1st innings, 20 year old Jaiswal more than made amends in the 2nd dig. Jaiswal scored 265 off 323 balls with 30 fours and 4 massive sixes to put West Zone in command. Jaiswal had scored a double ton in the opening game of the tournament. He had scored 228 against the debutants North East Zone to announce his arrival.

Sarfaraz Khan continues his good form –

The selectors would have had their eye on one batter who is a likely India cap ready. That was none other than 24 year old run machine Sarfaraz Khan, who scored yet another century. Khan scored 34 in the 1st innings to bail West Zone out of trouble. In the 2nd dig, he scored an imperious 127 not out from 178 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Unadkat comes to the fore with the ball –

If South Zone spinners had done damage in the 1st innings, West Zone had their lead pacer Jaydev Unadkat to thank. The 30 year old picked 4 for 52 in the first innings to keep South Zone’s lead to mere 57. Unadkat picked the wickets of Kunnummal for 31, followed by the centurion Baba Indrajith for 118. Unadkat then got the wickets of Bhui for 4 and Thampi for 1.
