Watch! Controversial end to the final Women’s ODI at Lords

 

Indian women’s team completed a fairytale series whitewash over the English team. The women in blue had beaten the home side in the first 2 ODI games at Hove and Cantebury. The final ODI at Lord’s gave the Harmanpreet Kaur led side a chance to complete a 3-0 win. The match was also the final time Jhulan Goswami would be walking to the ground as an India player.

The story so far –

Jhulan Goswami the Indian bowler and former captain was playing her 204th and final game for the Indian team on Saturday. The 39 year old had decided to hang up her boots post the English series. Indian team and English crowd gave her a standing ovation as the 39 year old walked on to the field for the final time.

Controversy erupts as Charlotte Dean breaks down –

Tasked with chasing 170 to win, England found themselves at 118 for 9 with the winning post 52 runs away. the final wicket pair of Fleya Davis and Charlotte Dean had added 35 for the final wicket. That’s when Deepti Sharma while bowling to Davis stopped and effected a run out via the Mankad rule. The entire crowd started booing as the English batter Charlotte Dean broke down in tears. England lost the match by 17 runs to give India a 3-0 win.


 

Mandhana and Sharma score fifties to help India reach 169 –

Opener Smriti Mandhana continued her fine form with the bat as she scored yet another 50 on the tour of England. The left hander scored 50 from 79 balls with 5 fours in her knock. Deepti Sharma scored 68 off 107 balls with 7 fours to her name. Pooja Vastrakar was the other batter who managed to reach double figures with 22 off 38 balls with 4 fours.

Renuka Singh wreaks havoc as Goswami picks 2 wickets in her final outing for India –

England’s batting wobbled right from the start as Renuka Singh Thakur picked 4 wickets with the ball. Goswami playing her final game bowled ten overs and picked 2m wickets for 30 runs to end her career on a high.
