Watch! Cricket fans feel for Travis Head as he misses his ton in heartbreaking fashion

Australia and West Indies began the 2nd day of their 2 match test series with the home team batting overnight. Australia had ended the day at 293/2 with Labuschagne on 154 and Steve Smith on 59. The two wickets to fall were David Warner for 5 and fellow opener Usman Khawaja for 65.

The West Indian bowlers who had nothing going for them, wanted to nick a few early wickets. This would have put the home team under pressure as the Perth Pitch becomes a bowlers delight after the 3rd day.

Travis head misses his century by a whisker –

Left handed batter, Travis Head came into bat at number 5 at the fall of Marnus Labuschagne. Once head came in, he was going after the already tired and deflated West Indian bowlers. The 28 year old playing his 29th test for Austrlia had to got to his 9th test half century.

Once he got to his fifty, the pace of scoring increased and he began to take on each bowler without mercy. With the score reading 598/3, West Indian skipper Kraigg Brathwaite was bowling to head. The left hander in a bid to get to his 5th test ton, tried to steer it past slip for a single.

All Travis head could do was see helplessly as the ball took the inside edge to dislodge the bails and dismiss the batter. Head fell for 99 off 95 balls after having hit 11 fours.

Labuschagne and Smith light up the day with twin double centuries –

The day belonged to the run machine batting duo of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. 28 year old Labuschagne scored his 2nd test double ton when he scored 204 off 350 balls with 20 fours and a six.

Steve Smith, overnight batting on 59, got to his 29th test ton with a single to slot himself alongside Sir Don Bradman. The right hander then started to pick up the pace and went after the opposition to score his 4th test double ton. Smith was not out on 200 off 311 balls with 16 fours. Pat Cummins declared the innings at 598. At the time of writing, West Indies were 50 for no loss with Tagenarine Chanderpaul on 26 and Kraigg Brathwaite on 16.
