The home team have already wrapped up a win post a sensational batting performance on the final day in the 2nd test. Jonny Bairstow played the knock of a lifetime to get deliver an unlikely win for the home team. Defending champions of the, World Test Championship are now in danger of getting knocked out of the race for the finals. The 3rd test at Leeds witnessed one of the most bizarre dismissals seen in recent times.

Henry Nicholls falls to a freak dismissal –

Kiwi batsman Henry Nicholls hasn’t had the best of time with the bat during the current tour of England. Yesterday the 30 year old left hander from Christchurch was seen weathering the storm. He had faced 98 balls for his 19 runs with the bat, that’s when he came down the track to Jack Leach. Nicholls tried to powerfully drive the ball down the ground, but was shocked when the ball hit Daryl Mitchell’s bat and flew to Alex Lees who took the catch. The bowler Jack Leach was stumped in his reaction as he was more shocked to celebrate. Nicholls was out for 19 off 99 balls to leave the Kiwis reeling at 123 for 5. The dismissal was a reminder of what happened between Andrew Symonds and Clarke in 2005 in a ODI against Sri Lanka.

Kiwis lose half their side for 123-

Batting first, the Kiwis saw their captain Kane Williamson back in the squad after being laid low by COVID. Latham was the first to go for a duck to broad, Young and Williamson then added 35 for the 2nd wicket before Young fell to Jack Leach after scoring 20. Broad struck again when he had Williamson caught behind for 31 to make it 62 for 3. It was soon 83 for 4 when Conway became Jamie Overton’s first test wicket for 26. The unfortunate dismissal of Nicholls had NZ at 123 for 5.

Blundell and Mitchell join forces again –

Just when the chips were down, Tom Blundell and Daryl Mitchell struck a century partnership for the 3rd test in running. The pair added 120 for the 6th wicket with both mixing caution and aggression. Blundell scored yet another 50 before he was sent back by Potts. Bracewell scored a patient 13 before becoming Broad’s 3rd wicket of the game.

Mitchell the hero of the hour –

New Zealand have found a hero on this tour and he goes by the name Daryl Mitchell. The 30 year old scored his 3rd consecutive ton to help his team reach a decent total of 329 on the board. His knock came from 228 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes, he was supported for a while by Southee who scored 33 off 29 balls. New Zealand were all out for 329 as Jack Leach got the last two wickets of Southee and Wagner.
