Mohammad Azharuddin is one such name who evokes mixed reactions from the cricket crazy fans of India. The former Indian captain as much as lauded for his wristy and silken touch batting, is still loathed in some corners for his involvement in match fixing. Azharuddin was recently playing for India legends and he still showed the talent he possesses with the bat.

Mohammad Azharuddin aged 59 was recently seen playing for India legends in a quadrangular tournament. The 4 team tournament was played in the T10 format with, India legends, World Legends, Pakistan Legends and Bollywood Kings being the 4 teams. Azharuddin was playing for India legends with names like VRV Singh, Amit Bhandari, Nayan Mongia, Saba Karim, Narendra Hirwani, Ajay Sharma to name a few. In the game against World Legends, the former Indian captain was batting with his son Mohammad Asaduddin. The 59 year old Azhar came down the tracked and lofted a delivery bowled by former Sri Lankan Opener Dilshan for a huge six. Azharuddin still the same languid style and poise and ability to read the length early and smack the spinners for a six.
Azhar’s career in numbers
Mohammad Azharuddin made his debut for India in 1984 against England in Kolkata as a 21 year old. He stroked 3 back to back centuries in his first three tests, he was soon one of the most promising batsmen to play the game. He was given the captaincy of the national team in the early 90’s and India became a dominating force when it came to winning matches at home. He was the captain for India in 3 cricket world cups in 1992, 1996 and 1999. His best result was reaching the semi finals of the 1996 world cup. He played 99 tests for India with his last coming against South Africa in 2000 at Bangalore when he scored a century. He was one of the rare batsmen to score a century on debut and in his last game. He was then banned from the game for his involvement in the match-fixing saga which broke out in 2000. Azharuddin played 99 tests for India scoring 6215 runs with an average of 45 with 22 centuries and 21 fifties. In 334 ODI games he scored 9378 runs with 7 centuries and 58 fifties. He was known to have the best wrist work in the game and was also an amazing fielder.
