Watch! Rakheem Cornwall smash an amazing double century in T20 cricket

Double Hundreds in the white ball format are very rare. It took nearly 40 years for the first man to achieve that feat in ODI cricket. Sachin Tendulkar in the iconic words of Ravi Shastri was the man to reach that mark akin to man on the moon moment. Imagine scoring a 200 in T20 cricket, seems unthinkable right? Well that’s what happened during a T20 game which was being played in USA.

The story as it happened –

Out of favor Rakheem Cornwall is known for his cricketing talents despite the tall rotunda figure he carries. The 29 year old has been away from the West Indian set up for a while. Cornwall who just played the Caribbean Premier League has literally created a storm with his bat. Cornwall playing for Atlanta Fire scored a double ton.

Big man does the unthinkable –

Rakheem Cornwall playing for the Atlanta Fire struck an amazing 205 off mere 77 balls. His knock had 17 fours and 22 massive sixes and he got to the double ton mark with a huge six. The Fires uploaded a short video on Twitter where Cornwall could be seen hitting a six to reach his double ton. Cornwall was all smiles as he removed his helmet and turned to his teammates to show his accomplishment.

Batting first, Steven Taylor and Cornwall opened the innings for the Fires. The openers added 100 in just the first 6 overs with Taylor scoring 53. The innings from Taylor had 5 fours and 5 sixes as he scored 53 off 18 balls before falling to Varun Sai Mantha. That was the only wicket Square Drive team could pick. Former Pakistan opener Sami Aslam scored 53 as well with his knock coming from 29 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Easy win for Atlanta Fire-

Chasing 327 to win, the Drives were never in the game with the bat as they had to score at a asking rate of 16.25 per over. Y. Balaji was the top scorer with 38 off 22 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Varun Sai Mantha was the 2nd top scorer with 36 off 22 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Justin Dill picked 4/14. While Amila Aponsu picked 2/42. Square Drive could only score 154/8 as the Atlanta Fires ran out winners by a massive margin of 172 runs.
