Australian opener David Warner successfully wins case against Spartan Sports
Ashes 2023 saw Australia beat England by 2 wickets in the final moments of the 1st test match. The newly crowned ICC World Test Champions took a 1-0 lead thanks to their win late on day 5. One of the players who was part of the victorious first test was none other than Australian opener David Warner. The left handed batter scored 45 runs in the game with his 36 in the 2nd innings providing the Aussies a good start.
The story as it happened –
David Warner entered into a legal agreement with Spartan Sports for a period of two years. During this period he would be one of the biggest brand ambassadors for the company. The other in question was none other than former India and current CSK skipper MS Dhoni.
Terms of the deal breached –
After Warner signed for Spartan Sports, the Australian opener he honored his part of the deal. The company though, failed to pay the Australian opener what he was owed. Warner was owed over 380,000 Dollars. Spartan Sports though did not pay Warner, once the deal between the two parties ran out.
David Warner finally wins the case –
Once Warner wasn’t paid, the Australian opener took the company to court. Both the parties fought tooth and nail. June 2023 though saw the matter finally get its closure. The court in Sydney the home town of David Warner, found Spartan Sports guilty and asked them to make the payment to David Warner.
Spartan’s previous issues –
Sachin Tendulkar the former Indian batting great had also taken Spartan Sports to court. The reason for the entire legal wrangle was because the company in question had used the image of Sachin Tendulkar and certain other aspects related to the Indian superstar without asking his permission. The courts ruled it in favor of Sachin Tendulkar and asked the company to pay the compensation.
Huge task ahead for Warner –
David Warner will seen next playing in the 2nd Test at Lords which begins on Wednesday. It is a huge moment for Warner as he plays his final test match at the home of cricket and will want to make it count. Warner scored just 45 runs in the 1st test with 36 off them coming in the 2nd innings. Stuart Broad got the wicket of Warner for 15th time with 7 off them coming the last time the two teams played in England in 2019.
