South Africa are making their first visit to Pakistan in a decade and a half and playing their first test match at Karachi. The Pakistanis who are hosting a major team after a long time and this is the first big test for Babar Azam as the captain. South Africa are coming into the series after a successful home series against Sri Lanka winning the two match test series by two games to nil. Pakistan on the other hand is coming on the back of a series loss to New Zealand away from home. The first test is poised finely with both the teams trading punches in a bid to outdo each other. The day three of the game saw one hilarious incident which made the governing council of the game ICC to see the funny side and tweet about the same.

The Pakistanis began the day at eight down with fast bowler Hassan Ali and debutant Nauman Ali at the crease as the overnight batsmen. Hassan Ali began the day brightly stroking some crisp boundaries but in a rush of blood he went for a wild slog and got an inside onto his stump to see his middle stump flattened. This was Rabada’s 200th test wicket and the 25 year old Protean was overcome with joy. ICC couldn’t stop making light of the situation though as the posted two pictures of one Hassan Ali supposedly playing a good looking shot while the picture posted by the side showed his middle stump flattened on the ground. The ICC gave the description which read “your profile picture versus the full picture”.

After the dismissal of Hassan Ali, the Pakistani last pair of Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali added 55 quick runs for the last wicket to give the Pakistanis a lead of 158. South African lost Dean Elgar early but Aiden Markram and Rassie Van Der Dussen added a patient 127 for the second wicket before Yasir Shah came into the fag end of the day and snatched three quick wickets. At the close of play South Africa had a lead of 29 with 6 wickets in hand and the pair of Keshav Maharaj and Quinton De Kock at the crease. The South Africans lost 3 wickets for 12 runs in an end of the day scenario they might have not wanted and anticipated. De Kock and Maharaj will hope to add some quick runs to put the hosts under pressure with two full days of the test to go.
