IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians shuts up Punjab Kings on Twitter with a classy reply

 

Match number 46 for TATA Indian Premier League 2023 season Mumbai Indians taken on Punjab Kings. Last time the two teams met was at the Wankhede Stadium where Arshdeep Singh helped Punjab win a high scoring contest. Both the teams were coming into the game on the back of wins. Punjab had beaten Chennai away from home, while Mumbai had chased down 213 to beat Rajasthan Royals at home.

The story as it happened –

Mumbai Indians won the toss and Rohit Sharma opted to field again. There was one change for Mumbai as Akash Madhwal made his debut for Riley Meredith who was injured. Punjab had two changes with Nathan Ellis and Matthew Short coming in for Rabada and Sikandar Raza.

Punjab Kings get owned by Mumbai on social media as well!

Rohit Sharma’s bad form with the bat continued as he fell for a 3 ball duck. The Mumbai captain was caught by Matthew Short off Rishi Dhawan in the 1st over of the chase. That’s when Punjab Kings took to Twitter and wrote the word R followed by a duck with a emoji signifying laughter.

Mumbai Indians though had the last laugh as they took to Twitter and replied that Rohit Sharma has 6 titles. Also adding, the Kings XI Punjab or as it is called now Punjab Kings is yet to win a title. Mumbai Indians also wrote the word, Respect in the form of an hashtag.

Punjab Kings lost their opener, Prabhsimran Singh for 9 to Arshad Khan, while Shikhar Dhawan was out for 30 to Piyush Chawla. The veteran leggie struck again when he had Matthew Short bowled for 26. The score read 95/3, that’s when Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone joined forces to add 119 unbroken stand.

Punjab Kings who had scored 214 at Mumbai ended with the same score on Wednesday as well. Jitesh was not out on 49 off 27 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Livingstone was not out on 82 off 42 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Mumbai had conceded nearly 70 runs in the last 5 overs as the death bowling concerns still remain for Rohit Sharma.

Ishan Kishan and SKY lead the charge as Mumbai post a thumping win –

Tasked with 215 to win, post the loss of Rohit Sharma, it was Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green who started the fightback. The pair added 54 runs for the 2nd wicket in 33 balls before Green fell for 23. Surya Kumar Yadav came in as impact player and added 116 runs in 55 balls along with Ishan Kishan.

After 8 overs, Mumbai were 67/2 but at the end of the 15th over the score was 170/2 with 103 runs coming in 7 overs. Yadav scored 66 off 31 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Kishan was the top scorer for Mumbai with 75 off 41 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Tim David 19 not out with 3 fours and Tilak Varma with 26* off 10 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes saw Mumbai win with 7 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand to move to 6th place.
