KXIP take on table-toppers Delhi Capitals in the northern derby tonight. While DC is sitting pretty with 14 points in 9 games, they would love to secure a playoff spot by winning today. In a tournament as dynamic as the IPL, Ricky Ponting would not want his team to lose momentum and keep the winning streak going. KXIP on the other hand with 6 points out of 9 games, will have to take every game as a do or die encounter.

Sunday’s double super over win against the defending champions would give the KL Rahul led franchise a lot of confidence. They have beaten two strong sides, RCB and MI in back to back encounters and will face a stern challenge from the Delhi Capitals. Finally, the Punjab team looks to have found a settled combination and they will be looking to stick with the winning team. However, Maxwell’s string of low scores will worry them no end and that’s the only chance they might be potentially looking to make.

Maxwell’s electrifying and fielding and ability to bowl tight overs might save him from the ax!

Many experts have slammed Glenn Maxwell not just for his low scores, but the way he has been getting out. Even against MI, it was all too easy for Rohit Sharma. Soon as the Victorian walked to the crease, Rohit got the leg spinner in the attack and placed himself at slip. Rahul Chahar tossed it up way outside the off stump, enticing Maxi for a booming drive and getting him caught by the skipper at slip.

Noted commentator and former Kiwi fast bowler, Simon Doull slammed Maxwell’s approach and had a suggestion for KXIP. Doull said, “It’s been 4 years since Glenn Maxwell last scored an IPL fifty. He’s had opportunity aplenty to score runs, he just hasn’t done it. The issue with Maxwell is the way he is getting out, but he’s bowling well enough to stay in the side. Punjab are not going to pick Hardus Viljoen or James Neesham. They could bring Mujeeb and give themselves another bowling option, but I don’t think they would want to weaken their batting.”
