Arshdeep Singh not too long ago was considered one of the best young bowlers to come out of India. The 24 year old hasn’t played for India since the white ball season that was played against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia. The left handed pacer played the TATA IPL 2023 with Punjab Kings, before singing a deal with County side Kent.
The story so far –
Arshdeep Singh made his county debut for Kent in the ongoing game against Surrey at Canterbury. The 24 year old got 2 wickets in his first innings including that of Ben Foakes, the English test wicket keeper and batter. Arshdeep then went through the defenses of Worrall to get his 2nd wicket.
Arshdeep ends Jamie Smith’s quickfire knock –
Chasing 501 to win, Surrey were seen cruising to an unbelievable win at the Kent’s home ground of Canterbury. With the score reading 230/2, Jamie Smith was batting well on 114 off 77 balls with 18 fours and 4 sixes. That’s when Arshdeep bowling from round the wicket got ball to come into the batter. Jamie Smith saw his stumps take a beating as he was out for 114.
Surrey had given Kent a lead of 156, and saw Kent score 344 in their 2nd dig with run rate of over 4 runs per over. Zimbabwean batter Muyeye top scored with 79 off 120 balls with 12 fours. D. Bell Drummond with 59 was the other major contributor with the bat. Qadri scored 72 off 85 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes. The main wicket taker for Surrey was Jordan Clark with 5/79, while Worrall picked 3 wickets. Sean Abbott and Atkinson picked a wicket each.
Surrey stage a fightback –
Chasing 501 to win, Rory Burns was out for 4 off 2 balls when he fell to Wes Agar. Dom Sibley and Latham then added 87 for the 2nd wicket with Latham scoring 59 off 119 balls with 9 fours. Post the fall of Smith for 114, two discarded English players in Sibley and Foakes were standing firm. Sibley was not out on 97 off 356 balls with 11 fours and Foakes was on 89 not out off 180 balls with 11 fours.
