Watch! Australian players and members of Lords cricket ground nearly get into a scuffle

Australia held their nerves as they beat England by 43 runs in the 2nd test to take a 2-0 lead. The win came at Lords just before the tea interval on the final day on Sunday. The entire day wasn’t without drama with the Australian players coming under flak. This meant the off the field incidents over-shadowed the amazing knock played by English skipper Ben Stokes. The 32 year old nearly pulled of another miracle after his heroics in Leeds way back in 2019 Ashes series.

The story as it happened –

Jonny Bairstow was run out in controversial circumstances on the final day at Lords. The English wicket keeper batter left a bouncer alone and as he ventured out of his crease, Alex Carey threw down the stumps. This caused a huge uproar amongst the English fans as Bairstow was given run out for 10.

Usman Khawaja nearly gets into a fight –

It is well known that the Lord’s long room always has people greeting the players during the course of the game. It was no different on Sunday as the Australian players were making their way to lunch via the long room.

Sky Sports Cricket uploaded a video on Twitter where the Australian opener Usman Khawaja can be seen having animated discussion with a member. The entire exchange isn’t known as the left handed batter was pulled away by security.

Australian players booed –

The entire exchange between Khawaja and the member made up for over a minute. It took the security and the umpires to take the Australian player away. While the players were making their way up the stairs to their room, more members joined the fray to voice their displeasure at the Australian team.

Stokes plays a lone hand –

England began the final day needing over 200 runs with six wickets left as Ben Duckett and Stokes began the day. Duckett was the 1st to fall when he was out for 83 off 112 balls with 9 fours as England needed 194 runs at that stage.

Post the fall of Bairstow, Stokes and Broad then added 108 runs in mere 20.1 overs as Stokes scored an amazing ton. The English captain was the lone man standing as he fell for 155 off 214 balls with 9 fours and 9 sixes. Once Stokes fell it was all over despite a 25 run last wicket stand.

England were all out for 327 to lose the game by 43 runs and give Australia 2-0 lead in the series. Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood picked 3 wickets each while Green got 1 wicket.
