Watch! Matthew Wade’s spectacular save to prevent a six takes social media by storm
After an hectic season of T20 cricket, The Hundred tournament began recently. The shortest and the most exciting form of cricket saw the Oval Invincibles take on London Spirit at Lords on Wednesday. The game went down to the wire as Oval won the game derby game with 3 wickets in hand and 1 ball to spare. The whole game saw some amazing action with the bat and ball as well as the field. Matthew Wade was the star of the show as he pulled of perhaps the save of the season.
The story as it happened –
Given a target of 132 to win, the Oval team was up with their backs against the wall. The onus of taking the team home was on the shoulders of Tom Curran and Sunil Narine. That’s when the Lords crowd something really spectacular piece of fielding from the veteran Australian player.
Wade’s fielding stuns the crowd –
Tom Curran was facing off against Jordan Thomson who happened to bowl a low full toss. The batter Tom Curran just played a flick and it seemed destined to go for a six. That’s when Wade jumped and threw the ball back into play.
What made it more special was the fact that, Wade got up quickly and threw the ball towards the bowlers end. The entire sequence of events was so fast that Sunil Narine was nearly run out due to the brilliance from Wade.
Batting first, London Spirit opened with Dan Lawrence and Rossington as the pair added 46 runs in 27 balls. Lawrence was out for 24 off 17 balls with 4 fours and a six as he was dismissed by Nathan Sowler. The top scorer for the London team was Rossington who scored 39 off 21 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Wade scored 37 off 27 balls with 4 fours. London Spirit was all out for 131 as Sowler picked 3/34, while Narine picked 2/14.
Oval take home a thrilling win –
Chasing 132 to win, Jason Roy was out for 8, while Will Jacks was out for 11. Jordan Cox was out for 22 off 21 balls with 2 fours. Sam Curran top scored with 34 off 28 balls with 5 fours, while Sam Billings scored 25 off 15 balls with 2 fours and a six. Narine hit a four and a six as he scored 13 not out from 5 balls to win the game for Oval with 1 ball to spare.
