Former Indian captain and head of Chairman of Selectors, Kris Srikanth was recently speaking to India today. The dashing right handed former opener revealed two names who could be 2023 team’s Yuvraj Singh and play the role perfectly.
Speaking to India Today, Srikanth said “We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we have Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup. I believe Jadeja, the Axar Patels of the world, these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup”
Home comfort an advantage for India?
Yuvraj Singh had a great 2011 world cup as he scored over 300 runs with the bat including a century against West Indies. The then 29 year old also picked crucial wickets including a five wicket haul against Ireland. It was Yuvraj Singh who single handedly led the Indian team and played a crucial role for MS Dhoni in the title win.
Speaking on the home conditions, Kris Srikanth said “In Indian conditions, some of the wickets will turn a lot. It won’t be bouncy like in Australia or moving conditions like in England. India are used to home conditions, and that is one of the biggest advantages for the Indians. In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play."
Srikanth speaks on Pakistan’s chances –
With the 2023 ICC World Cup being held in India, there is huge anticipation of Pakistan coming to play. None of the players from the current Pakistani team have played in India. Ahmedabad is set to host the big game between India and Pakistan on 15th October the day Babar Azam turns 29.
Kris Srikanth while speaking about the Pakistan team said “In Indian conditions, some of the wickets will turn a lot. It won’t be bouncy like in Australia or moving conditions like in England. India are used to home conditions, and that is one of the biggest advantages for the Indians. In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play. I am not ruling out Pakistan. Yes, they are used to sub-continent conditions, but the point is, they have not played in India for a long time”
