In the second game of the day played at the Dubai international stadium between Chennai and Bangalore. Chennai lost yet another game as they fell way short of the target set by RCB. Chennai lost by 37 runs is what is now their worst ever start to the season since the inception of IPL in the year 2008.

Kohli Masterclass leads RCB to a strong total

Batting first RCB lost Aaron Finch early with just 13 runs on the board, in walked skipper Kohli who along with the young Padikkal added for the second wicket. Shardul Thakur struck twice in one over to leave RCB in a spot of bother and with Washington Sundar also departing for a run a ball 10 it seemed that RCB will struggle to post a decent score. With Shivam Dube and Kohli joining forces, the RCB total began to kick on. Virat Kohli finished with 90 runs of 52 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. His stroke-making and running between the wickets did show that the best of Kohli has come back to form after a prolonged hit and miss run with the bat post lockdown.

Chennai’s Struggle with the bat continues

Chasing this season has never been easy for Chennai, barring the two games where they were successful in chasing down a target. Chennai has always floundered while chasing and this time also the script was almost the same. Chasing 170 to win Chennai lost both their openers by the score of 25 but Rayudu and Jagadeesan tried to steer the ship with the latter falling and skipper Dhoni falling soon the chase was destined to be a doomed one with the required rate peaking beyond reach. Chennai Super king finished at 132 for 8 and losing by 37 runs with half the tournament gone.

Skipper Dhoni speaks

At the close of the game, Chennai Super King captain Dhoni mentioned that his bowlers did not bowl to plan in the last four overs of the game even though the bowlers had done a great job in the earlier part of the game. On being probed further Dhoni said the team is doing the same things, again and again, in spite of a few individuals changing. He further emphasized on the need to trust the process and not look at the results of the previous game as it puts pressure on the players. On the batting front, he was honest and upfront with the commentators when he said none of the batsmen have shown the consistency required in a competition such as the IPL. He signed off saying in the coming games he wants his to be freer and play more expressive cricket.
