Star England player certain to miss the whole of English summer
Cricket fans across the world for the resumption of international cricket as a mega calendar awaits them with some of the biggest cricketing encounters expected to take place this year with the World Test Championship final and the India versus England test series plus the age old rivalry of the Ashes cricket slated to take place later this year in Australia. The first piece of action is slated to take place between England and New Zealand as the two teams square off in a two match test series with the first test to begin on the 2nd June at the home of cricket at Lord’s. The English team though were in for a setback with a star player set to miss the whole of the English summer.
The story as it happened –
England are preparing to face off against New Zealand in the first test match at Lord’s beginning on the 2nd June just ahead of a massive summer for the Joe Root led side comes the news that star fast bowler Jofra Archer is all but certain to miss the whole summer owing to a recurrence to the elbow injury that has kept him out of cricket for a while. The 26 year old right arm fast bowler just made his comeback to county cricket for Sussex but Archer is set to face another spell away from the game.
Jon Lewis speaks on the latest setback –
English fast bowling coach Jon Lewis spoke about the latest crisis faced by Jofra Archer and said “At the moment, he has a bit of an impingement in his elbow. A lot of fast bowlers get it in their ankle, so it’s comparable but a different part of the body. Put a lot of pressure and flexion through any joint, it will take a bashing. But bowlers come through ankle impingements. I don’t foresee it being a long-term major issue. From what I understand, either short-term or long-term, his elbow will recover. I would expect him to play a lot more international cricket for England. This is just a small blip on his journey”
Jofra Archer will be a huge miss for England and Joe Root as the English captain would have loved to have him in the side for the 5 match test series versus the visiting Indian side and have battle against the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the 26 year old had already missed the IPL owing to the injury concerns and he was looking to make a swift return to the international cricket with a demanding summer schedule in front of England. Joe Root would love to have him tour Down Under as the English prepare to face the hostile Australian bowlers who lay in wait for the Ashes later this year.
