Cricket over the years has become a sport which gives every player to earn the kind of money some of the other sports rewards their players with. With television money and sponsorships coming the way of the various cricket boards the cricketers too are given a substantial amount of money for their services to the national side. One of the most pressured jobs in cricket is being the captain of the national side. WION recently came up with the figures each of the captain earns in international cricket as an unexpected name takes the top spot.  

Sri Lanka at the bottom of the totem pole –

1996 world cup champions Sri Lanka come at the bottom of this list as test skipper Karunaratne earns INR 51 Lakh and while limited overs skipper Kusal Perera earns mere INR 25 Lakhs. At number 7 comes Babar Azam of Pakistan who earns INR 62 lakh from his board despite being one of the premier batsmen in the world. At number 6 comes West India white ball captain  Kieron Pollard earning INR 1.7 Crore and test skipper Kraig Braithwaite earning INR 1.39 crore. At number 5 is Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson who is leading his team on a short tour of England which also includes the WTC final versus India as the 30 year old earns INR 1.77 crore from NZC.

Surprising name takes the top spot –

South African pair of Dean Elgar the test skipper and Temba Bavuma the white ball captain come at number 4 as Elgar earns INR 3.2 Crore while Bavuma earns INR 2.5 Crore from the Protean Board. Five time world champions Australia come in at number three as white ball captain Aaron Finch earns INR 4.8 Crore while Test skipper Tim Paine earns the same amount as Finch does. At number two comes Indian run machine and captain fantastic Virat Kohli who earns INR 7 crore for his contribution to the men in blue. England test skipper Joe Root takes the top spot with INR 8.9 Crore for his immense contribution to English cricket while world cup winning white ball skipper Eoin Morgan earns – INR 1.75 crore which is a drastic drop from what the red ball skipper earns for the 3 lions.
