TATA IPL 2022 has been going on pretty smoothly with the crowds and the fans enjoying the summer carnival of cricket. The action on the field has been non stop with the contest between bat and ball being an even one. The entire league phase has been held in Maharashtra with 4 centers holding the matches. 3 stadiums in Mumbai and MCA stadium in Pune are hosting the league phase matches. The idea behind holding the entire league phase in Maharashtra was due to the lack of new COVID-19 cases in the region.
The Story as it happened –
There is massive news coming out of Mumbai from the Delhi Capitals camp. The Physio for the Delhi Capitals team, Patrick Farhart has been tested positive for the Coronavirus. The Delhi Capitals have released a statement about this and have confirmed a positive case being detected.
Tournament in trouble?
With the new case being confirmed , the tournament will again face question marks. The tournament so far hasn’t been really affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is again rearing its head with a new variant. The BCCI and IPL management are using a wait and watch approach to see the damage done so far.
Re-run of IPL 2021?
TATA IPL 2021 saw the league getting suspended before a SRH game, when Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman Saha had tested positive. This was in early May of 2021 when India was the worst affected country in the world. The 2nd wave had ravaged the nation with massive effect on the medical infrastructure taking a huge hit. The league was suspended before it was played towards the end of the year in UAE. India also had lost the chance to host the World T20 in India, and instead hosted it in the UAE.
Delhi Capitals next play RCB on Saturday in the evening game, and a news of this magnitude is certain to send shockwaves in the DC camp. More news is awaited about how many more people are affected with the virus and who were in close contact with Patrick Farhart.
