Watch! Gautam Gambhir’s celebrations go viral after the win over his former side KKR

l

It has been over 12 hours, but the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants is still being spoken about. Lucknow’s 2 run win was the least ever for a team which was defending a score over 200. The loss put paid to the hopes for KKR team management and the fans about a possible qualification for the play-offs. One man who had the cameras on him at all times was former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir. The former two time IPL winner is currently the mentor for the Lucknow franchise.

Gautam Gambhir lets his emotions loose post the close win –

Gautam Gambhir has a deep connect with Kolkata after he was their captain for 7 years. Those years were the best that KKR has seen, as they won two titles in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir left KKR at the end of the 2017 season and moved back to Delhi before retiring from the game. Gambhir cut a frustrated figure for most part of the LSG bowling towards the 2nd half of the KKR innings. One could see him looking intently at the action going on the field. His facial expression changed with every four and six that was hit by KKR batsmen. Once Umesh Yadav was bowled the former India opener was screaming his lungs out and was seen to be charged up as he made his out of the dugout.

Quinton De Kock plays the knock of a lifetime –

Lucknow super giants won the toss and chose to bat first and what followed was total carnage for the KKR bowlers. Quinton De Kock decided to send home the DY Patil faithful happy with a brilliant 70 ball 140* innings. This was the last game of the season at the Navi Mumbai stadium. His knock contained 10 fours and 10 sixes. KL Rahul provided good support with a 51 ball 68, as LSG reached 210 for no loss.

KKR fall short by 2 runs –

Chasing 211 to win, KKR lost Venkatesh Iyer and Abhijeet Tomar early. It was Nitish Rana who began the counter attack along with skipper Shreyas Iyer. Once Rana was out, in came Sam Billings to keep the fight going. But quick wickets meant that KKR need 58 runs from the next 5 overs. Sunil Narine and Rinku Singh then went hell for leather to put the LSG bowlers under the pump. Marcus Stoinis held his nerve and got 2 wickets off two balls to record a close 2 run win for LSG. Gambhir and the rest of the support staff were a happy bunch as they have qualified for the play-offs in their debut season.
