Watch! Krunal Pandya gives a special send off to Pollard as Sunil Gavaskar and cricket fans react

This season of the Indian Premier League has given us a view of former team mates going against each other on a few occasions. First we got the brother versus brother battle of Hardik and Krunal Pandya. Yesterday we saw Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya face off each other in the battle of KP’s. Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard shared the Mumbai dressing room for 3 years and have won the IPL thrice. The Pandya brothers and Pollard share a good bond, but those were thrown out of the window when LSG faced off against Mumbai Indians on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard engaged in a battle for one-upmanship –

Put into bat LSG scored a decent 168 on the board thanks to a 2nd century by KL Rahul. The LSG skipper scored 103 once more after his previous century against the same opponents with the same score at the Brabourne stadium weeks ago. During the game Kieron Pollard struck first when he had his former team mate Krunal Pandya caught by Shokeen for 1. The west Indian then ran up and struck up a pose just as Krunal Pandya was exiting the field.

Krunal Pandya has the last laugh –

With over 36 runs needed for a win in the final over, Mumbai Indians campaign was done and dusted. The first ball of the over saw Pollard try to hit Pandya for a six only to see Deepak Hooda settle under the ball and take a simple catch. Once Pollard fell, Krunal Pandya went up to the West Indian and kissed him on his head. Reacting to this Pandya said I was so thankful that I got his (Pollard) wicket otherwise he would have eaten my brain throughout my life because he got me out and now that it’s 1-1 at least he will speak less

Sunil Gavaskar slams Krunal Pandya –

One person who did not see the funny side to the entire exchange was former India legend Sunil Gavaskar. The 72 year old is part of the commentary box in the IPL and he did not hold back on his views while speaking at the end of the game to Star Sports India. Gavaskar said “No. No. He is not going to like it. However, good friends you are. That has to happen when the game gets over. Lucky that Pollard didn’t do anything”. Pollard was out for mere 19 off 20 balls to cap of yet another sorry performance with the bat this year.

Twitter too joins in the conversation –

The fans on twitter too did not see the funny side with majority of the fans aghast at Krunal Pandya. The fans took to twitter by the droves to make themselves heard. This isn’t the last time we have seen this battle as Mumbai fans and Pollard will be eagerly waiting for next season as Mumbai prepares to do battle with Lucknow during IPL 2023.
