In every decade of the game of cricket has some interesting duels with the bat. The 70’s and 80’s saw the due between Gavaskar, Richards and Border. The 90’s saw Tendulkar and Jayasuriya go head to head, while the next two decades saw Ponting and Tendulkar vie for top honors. Since the last ten years, the world has seen Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson vie for the mantle of the best batsman. Joe Root the 4th cog in the wheel was seen as a decent batsman, but one who looks the kind of game the other 3 had.

Joe Root’s father finally says what has made the change –

Ever since the start of 2020 when the new decade was ushered in, the world witnessed the Coronavirus Pandemic wreck havoc. While the world was grappling with the crisis one man was working on his batting away from the prying eyes of the world. Joe Root’s father recently while speaking to the English media said During COVID Joe got one of the Root Academy ball feeders that we have and he’d be there for an hour batting on one leg for balance. There’s a video somewhere of him doing it. Joe just loves batting. As a kid, wherever someone would bowl at him he’d be there with a bat. He just loves doing it, he just loves batting”

Root leaves the rest behind –

Joe Root’s renaissance began in 2021 during the tours of Sri Lanka and India. In the 2 tests against Sri Lanka, Root had scored 426 runs with a double century and 186 to his name. Next was the away tour of India, where he began with a double century in the 1st Chennai test. He scored a total of 368 runs in the 4 match series which was largely dominated with the ball. Root scored a mere 97 runs from the 2 tests versus the Kiwis last year, but once India came calling he was a beast. Root scored a century in each of the first 3 tests against India. Root scored 564 runs from the 7 innings he batted during the series. His visit to Australia bought him just 322 runs, but he found form with 289 runs from 3 tests with 2 centuries against West Indies.

Joe Root has already scored two centuries in the 2 tests so far against the Kiwis and gone past the 10,000 run mark. He has 302 runs in the series with an average of 151 and one can wonder how many more runs he could end up with before the end of this year.
