Ranji Trophy: Round up of the action from the 1st day’s play of the 1st round of matches

13th December, 2022 saw the Ranji Trophy begin with Madhya Pradesh as the defending champions. A lot of out of favor players like Ishant Sharna, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari are part of the tournament. Players like Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan and many more are using this tournament to make their comeback to the side or force into the Indian team.

Manipur vs Sikkim – Rangpo

Batting first, Manipur were all out for 186 with top scores from Kishan Sangma (42) and R. Longjam (41). At the close of play Sikkim were 58 for no loss from 26 overs with Anuj Chettri on 41 and Pankaj Rawat on 12.

Arunachal Pradesh vs Bihar – Patna

Ashutosh Aman’s 4/36 and 3 wicket haul by Sachin Kumar helped Bihar bowl out Arunachal for 212. Akhilesh Sahani was the top scorer with 66 from 83 balls with 11 fours. At stumps, Bihar were 50 for no loss from 13 overs with Binny on 30 and A. Johri on 20.

Kerala vs Jharkhand – Ranchi

3 half centuries by Kerala batters helped them reach 276/6 after 90 overs. Openers Rohan Prem with 79 and Rohan Kunnummal with 50 were the early scorers. Captain Sanju Samson stole the show with 72 off 108 balls with 4 fours and 7 massive sixes in his knock. Akshay Chandran with 39 and Sijomon with 28 were at the crease at stumps.

Karnataka vs Services – Bengaluru

Only 40 overs were possible on the 1st day at Bengaluru. At stumps Karnataka were 148/6 with BR Sharath and K. Gowtham batting. Openers R. Samarth and Mayank Agarwal both fell for 8, the lead scorer was Nikin Jose with 62. For services Diwesh Pathania picked 5 wickets with the ball.

Railways vs Vidarbha – Nagpur

Former champs, Vidarbha were bowled out for 213 on the first day with Faiz Fazal scoring 112. Fazal’s knock came from 219 balls with 12 fours, Railways skipper Karn Sharma with 8/38 did the damage with the ball. At stumps, Railways were 22/1 with Shivam Chaudhary out for 16.

HP vs Haryana – Rohtak

It was a complete carnage for Haryana as they were bowled out for 46 in the 1st innings. Nishant Sidhu with 19 was the only batter to reach double figures. Vaibhav Arora with 4 wickets and Sidhart Sharma with 3 did the damage with the ball. HP had scored 246 at stumps with Prashant Chopra scoring 137 from 181 balls with 16 fours and 4 sixes. Ragav Dhawan with 88 was at the crease along with Ankit Kalsi on 15.

J and K vs MP – Jammu

Yash Dubey (81) along with 52 by Shubham Sharma and 62 by Rajat Patidar helped MP end the day at 251/6. Aaqib Nabi was the star with the ball picking 3/45, at stumps captain Aditya Srivastava on 23 was at the crease

Punjab vs Chandigarh – Mohali

Punjab openers Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh added 250 runs in 58 overs to leave the opposition gasping. Singh top scored with 202 runs from 278 balls with 28 fours and 2 sixes. Sharma on the other hand scored 100 off 146 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes. At Stumps Mandeep Singh with 16 and Anmolpreet Singh with 5 had seen Punjab reach 363/3 from 85 overs.

Mizoram vs Meghalaya – Nadiad

Taruwar Kohli was the lead scorer for Mizoram with 123 off 250 balls with 15 fours while Sreevats Goswami scored 74 as Mizoram were all out for 252. Rajesh Bishnoi picked 4/62 to do the damage with the ball.

Gujarat vs Tripura – Agartala

Priyank Panchal continued his good run of form with yet another century on the 1st day at Agartala. Panchal scored 111 off 176 balls with 21 fours while Chintan Gaja scored 68 as Gujarat were all out for 271. Murasingh was the lead wicket taker with 5/74.

Goa vs Rajasthan – Porvorim

Suyash Prabhudesai with 81 not out off 209 balls and SS Kauthankar with 59 helped Goa end the day at 210/5 from 85 overs. Aniket Chaudhary picked 2 wickets while Arafat Khan, Nagarkotti and Manav Sutar picked a wicket each.

Chhattisgarh vs Puducherry – Puducherry

4 wickets each by Sagar Udeshi and Ankit Sharma bowled out Chhattisgarh for 162. Wicketkeeper Shahnawaz was the top scorer with 43. At stumps Puducherry were 17/2 with Ajay Mandal picking both the wickets.

Nagaland vs Uttarakhand – Dimapur

Kunal Chandela with 92 helped Uttarakhand reach 282 as D. Negi with 83 and A. Rawat with 56 were the other contributors. At stumps Nagaland had reach 9/0 from 7 overs with their openers seeing out the new ball.

Odisha vs Baroda – Bhubaneshwar

Baroda bowlers bowled well to restrict Odisha to 214 from the 90 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. S. Mishra with 61 and S. Senapati with 52 are the top scorers till now, at stumps Abhishek Raut with 33 and Rajesh Dhuper with 6 are the crease.

Bengal vs UP – Kolkata

Ishan Porel was the star of the show for the home team with 5/35 as Bengal bowled out UP for 198. Rinku Singh with 79 was the top scorer while Priyam Garg scored 53. At stumps Shivam Mavi had rocked Bengal with 3 wickets while Rajpoot picked 1. Pritam Chakraborty with 12 and Sayan Mondal with 4 are at the crease at stumps.

Andhra vs Mumbai – Vizag

4 wickets by Tanush Kotian and 2 each by Avasthi and Mulani helped Mumbai bowl out Andhra for 238. Shoaib Khan top scored with 84 off 99 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes. At stumps Jaiswal was on 7 and Araman Jaffer on 5 as Shaw was out for 13 for Mumbai.

Assam vs Saurashtra – Guwahati

Rahul Hazarika’s 90 and Riyan Parag with 76 helped Assam reach 249 for 7 from the 85 overs of play. Chetan Sakariya and P Mankad with 2 wickets were the main wicket takers for Saurashtra.

Hyderabad vs TN – Hyderabad

TN bowlers had the Hyderabad team on the mat at 46/4 at one stage. Opener and skipper Tanmay Agarwal with 116 not out and T Ravi Teja with 72 helped the home team end the day at 256/5 before rain played spoil sport

Delhi vs Maharashtra – Pune

Bowling first, Maharashtra bowled out Delhi for 191 with Manoj Ingale picking 5/43. Himmat Singh top scored with 49 while Dhruv Shorey hit 42 and debutant captain Yash Dhull scored 40. At stumps Maharashtra were 80/5 with Naushad Shaikh on 44. For Delhi Simarjeet Singh picked 2 wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Mayank Yadav picked a wicket each with Satyajeet Bacchav run out for a duck.
