Pakistan warmed up for the 2022 T20 World Cup with the title win in the Tri- Series against New Zealand and Bangladesh on Friday. The 2009 ICC T20 World Champions are starting to fix some of their jig-saw puzzle back into shape. Their pace bowling has been strong and now their middle order too is starting to show form. One man though stole the limelight during the final encounter against the Kiwis.

The story as it happened –

Pakistan and New Zealand faced each other off in the final of the Tri-Series nation which also included Bangladesh. The match was played on Friday at the Hagley Oval at Christchurch. Haris Rauf the Pakistani quick was sending down some thunderbolts with the ball and was bowling over 150 KPH each time.

Glenn Phillips bat bears the brunt –

Haris Rauf, was bowling to Glenn Philips and it was the 5th ball of his 2nd over. The ball was recorded at close to 144 KPH and it tailed in a wee bit. Philips got the touch off the bottom off his bat and it split the bat into two pieces towards the bottom end of the blade. The Kiwi batter had to call for a replacement see his favorite bat being broken.

Haris Rauf had bowled well to pick 2 wickets for 22 runs including the man in form Devon Conway for 14. Rauf got the wicket of Ish Sodhi for 2 as he helped Pakistan restrict the home team to 163 in the final match of the Tri-Series.

Pakistani middle order shows some life –

New Zealand were seemingly back into contest when they had Pakistan at 74 for 3, but Mohammad Nawaz, Haider Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed finally showed some life with the bat. The trio scored crucial runs to help Pakistan to a 5 wicket win with 3 balls to spare and claim the title. The win comes at a crucial time as we are just 8 days away from the start of the T20 World Cup, with India and Pakistan starting their campaign against each other on 23rd October.
