Indian Under-19 Women’s team created history on Sunday. Shafali Varma and her team became the 1st ever team to win the inaugural championships by beating England in the final. India won the game by 7 wickets with 6 overs to spare in the final game which was played at Senwes Park at Potchefstroom.
It was a huge moment for the young women in blue with the Women’s IPL around the corner. The win has put the Indian women on the map and gave Varma a belated 19th birthday gift.
Archana Devi grabs a one handed beauty –
India won the toss and chose to bowl first and did not let the English team off the hook. Parshavi Chopra was bowling to Ryana Macdonald Gay who was batting on 19. The English batter went for check drive which went up in the air. Archana Devi flung herself and dived full length to take a one handed catch to leave the English batter stunned and dismissed for 19.

Yet another ripper by Gondadi Trisha –
Earlier in the day, Archana Devi had turned provider when she got the wicket of the English skipper. Grace Scrivens was batting on 4 when Devi enticed her with flight and Scrivens couldn’t get her timing right. Trisha came running and dived forward to take a two handed catch.
Indian eves bowl out England for 68 –
England did not get off the blocks in the huge game as they were all out for mere 68. Ryana Gay was the top scorer with 19 as Alexa Stonehouse and Sophia Smale scored 11 each. Niamh Holland scored as T. Sadhu, Archana Devi and Parshvi Chopra took 2 wickets each. The Indian women bowled with discipline as they skittled out the English in the 18th over.
India post an easy win to take home the crown –
Chasing 69 to win, Shafali Varma the captain was the first to go for 15 off 11 balls. Shweta Sehrwat scored 5 before becoming the 2nd Indian wicket to fall. 24 each by Soumya Tiwari and G. Trisha bought the Indian team closer to win. The winning runs came when Tiwari took a single as there were joyous scenes seen from the Under-19 women’s team camp.
