South Africa began their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign with their first game against Zimbabwe. The match was played at Bellerive Oval at Hobart and what was expected to be an exciting game ended up a damp squib. South Africa were 51/0 from 3 overs chasing 79 after the match was reduced to 9 overs per side.

South African side came into the 2022 T20 World Cup after a short series loss against India. Despite then loss, the South Africans came into the WC Super 12 stage slotted alongside India Pakistan and Bangladesh. Netherlands And Zimbabwe were the other two teams which joined after the qualifying stages.

The incident happened in the final over of the Zimbabwe innings as Nortje was bowling to Milton Shumba. The left hander went for a reverse ramp and the ball went to the fine leg boundary. Once the throw came back in the ball hit the gloves of Quinton De Kock. The umpire was quick to give 5 runs as penalty to the Zimbabwe team. This left the South African wicket keeper stunned.
Game starts late before reduced to 9 overs per side –
The match saw heavy rains pelt down after the game between Netherlands and Bangladesh. The match saw the game being reduced to 9 overs per side. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first.
Madhevere top scores as ZIM scores 79-
Lungi Ngidi and Wayner Parnell struck first as Zimbabwe slid to 12 for 3. Sean Williams was run out by David Miller to leave Zimbabwe at 19/4. That’s when Shumba and Madhevere added 60 runs for the 5th wicket. Madhevere scored 35 off 18 balls with 4 fours and a six. This helped Zimbabwe score 79 on the board from 9 overs.
De Kock starts off like house on fire as game gets called off –
Chasing 80 to win from 9 overs, the South African team reach 51 runs from 3 overs with Quinton De Kock and Temba Bavuma. De Kock scored 47 off 18 balls with 8 fours and a six, while Bavuma was out on 2 when the rain came down again and had the game being called off.
