IPL 2023: Twitter reacts to Aiden Markram’s catch to dismiss Nitish Rana

2023 season of the TATA Indian Premier League saw the 47th game of the tournament. The match was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders at Hyderabad. The last time the two teams met, Harry Brook had scored an amazing century. Both the teams needed a win in a bid to keep their hopes to make it to the final four stage of the tournament.

The story as it happened –

Nitish Rana won the toss and chose to bat first on what looked a good wicket at Hyderabad. Kolkata made two changes as Jason Roy and Vaibhav Arora came in for David Wiese and N. Jagadeesan, Hyderabad had Kartik Tyagi back in the mix after he was out for a while due to injury.

Aiden Markram pulls off the catch of the tournament –

Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram has been under huge pressure coming into the game. Despite all the huge investments, Hyderabad hasn’t really been able to do justice in the points table.

Bowling the 12th over of the innings, Markram saw Nitish Rana go for a huge slog sweep. Rana, couldn’t time the ball and Markram took it upon himself and ran all the way to take the catch. The KKR captain was out after scoring 42 (31B with 3x4 and 3x6).

Rinku Singh leads Kolkata to 171 –

Batting first, Kolkata were in early trouble at 35/3. Marco Jansen struck twice in his 1st over getting Gurbaz out for a duck. Venkatesh Iyer was out in the same over for 7, while Kartik Tyagi got Jason Roy out for 20. Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana added 61 runs for the 4th wicket before Rana got out to Markram.

Andre Russell struck 24 runs off 15 balls and was out to Markande while going for a big shot. The top scorer of the innings was Rinku Singh, who scored 46 off 35 balls with 4 fours and a six. Kolkata scored 171 with Jansen and Natarajan picking two wickets each for the home team.

Varun Chakravarthy and KKR hold their nerves to win the game –

Chasing 172 to win, Mayank Agarwal came up with a blazing start. The discarded Indian opener was out for 18, while fellow opener, Abhishek Sharma was out for 9. Aiden Markram top scored with 41 off 40 balls with 4 fours, while Klassen(36), Abdul Samad (21) and Rahul Tripathi (20) were the other contributors with the bat.

When the final over began, Hyderabad needed 9 runs to win. Hyderabad took a single each of the first two balls of the over. The 3rd ball saw Abdul Samad holed out to Anukul Roy off Chakravarthy. the equation was now 7 off 3 and the final balls saw just 1 run scored as KKR won the game by 5 runs to keep their hopes alive for the season.
