Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders locked horns once again on Saturday. The last time the two teams met it was an encounter to remember. Rinku Singh had smashed Yash Dayal for 5 sixes in a row to win an impossible looking game for Kolkata. Both the teams came into the game with a win in their last game. Gujarat had beaten Mumbai Indians, while Kolkata had beaten Bangalore away from home.

The story as it happened –

Rains meant that the game saw delay by over 45 minutes. Before the rain could come down, Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first. The visiting side went in with the same team, while Kolkata had Rahmanullah Gurbaz replace Jason Roy. The Englishman had back issues, while Umesh Yadav was replaced by Harshit Rana.

Ashish Nehra gives Murali Kartik the ‘Knee’ in the wrong place –

Before the toss could begin, there were some light hearted moments which were seen. Gujarat Titans coach, Ashish Nehra was seen having some words with his former Indian teammate Murali Kartik.

Nehra, known for his funny side, was seen talking to the former Indian turned commentator. That’s when, Nehra decided to give Murali Kartik the “Knee” at a place which cannot be mentioned. Murali Kartik was seen rolling on the floor with laughter despite the blow.


Gurbaz shows his might to lead Kolkata to 179 –

N. Jagadeesan had a new opening partner in Rahmanullah Gurbaz as the Chennai based player was seen to be in aggressive mood. Jagadeesan scored 19 off 15 balls with 4 fours before being out LBW to Shami as Shardul Thakur also fell for a duck to Shami. The star of the show was Gurbaz as he scored 81 off 39 balls before being caught by Rashid Khan off Noor Ahmed.

Gurbaz hit 5 fours and 7 sixes in his knock. Venkatesh Iyer (11), Nitish Rana (4), Rinku Singh (19) were the other contributors. Andre Russell who turned 35 on Saturday scored 34 not out off 19 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to lead Kolkata to 179 on the board.  

Vijay Shankar powers Gujarat to win after Gill’s blazing start –

Chasing 180 to win, Titans lost the wicket of Saha early for 10. Gill who scored a 50 against Mumbai in the last game again showed his classy touch. The 23 year old scored 49 off 35 balls with 8 fours. Hardik Pandya scored 26 off 20 balls with 2 fours and a six.

The star of the show was discarded Indian all rounder, Vijay Shankar. The 32 year old scored yet another 50 this season as he was not out on 51. Shankar’s knock came off 24 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. Miller was not out on 32 off 18 with 2 fours and 2 sixes as Gujarat won the game with 13 balls to spare and 7 wickets in hand to go top of the table.
