The 14th match of TATA IPL 2023 season was played at Hyderabad on Sunday. The game saw Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Punjab Kings. The season had started on the wrong note for Hyderabad with two losses in two games. Punjab on the other hand had won both their opening games. Sunrisers Hyderabad got an early boost as their South African contingent were all in contention to start the game. Hyderabad fans were an happy bunch as their team got their first win of the season in style.

The story as it happened –

Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bowl first as Marco Jansen and Heinrich Klassen came into the team. Mayank Markande made his IPL debut for Hyderabad. For Punjab, it was Matthew Short who made his debut in place of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, along with Mohit Rathee making his IPL debut.

Kavya Maran’s epic reaction to being the center of attention –

Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran is the talk of the town wherever she goes. The young lady is known for her excitement when the team is winning and varied emotions when the team is losing. It was no different on Sunday, when the cameraman was constantly showing her on the big screen. This perhaps got to Kavya Maran who could be seen muttering “What” in an irritated tone.

Shikhar Dhawan plays a lone hand to take Punjab to 143 –

Hyderabad bowlers were in form as they reduced the visitors to 88/9 at one stage. Mayank Markande got his best IPL figures when he picked 4/15. Sam Curran scored 22 which was the 2nd highest score for Punjab. The day belonged to Shikhar Dhawan who scored 99 not out off 66 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes. Dhawan played 28 balls out of the final 30 as he shielded number 11 Mohit Rathee from the strike.

Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram earn Hyderabad an easy win –

Chasing 144 to win, Arshdeep Singh got Punjab the first wicket when he had Harry Brook out for 13. Mayank Agarwal scored 21 off 20 balls before he was caught by Sam Curran of Rahul Chahar. At 45/2 it looked Sunrisers were in trouble, but an unbroken 100 run stand for the 3rd wicket between captain Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi got the team an easy win. Hyderabad won the game by 8 wickets with 17 balls left in the bank. Rahul Tripathi scored 74 not out off 48 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes, while Aiden Markram scored 37 off 21 with 6 fours.
