India ended the 1st day of the 2nd test match in command as they scored 21/0 from 9 overs. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were at the crease after they saw a spin heavy Australian attack.

This came after Australia were bowled out for 263 in their first innings. The visitors got to the score thanks to twin half centuries by Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb. It was a remarkable showing by the Australian batters after getting bowled out for 91 in the 2nd innings of the 1st test at Nagpur.

Shami left screaming in pain as Ashwin twists his ears –

Mohammad Shami was in his elements with the old ball as he was having the Australian team in trouble with his reverse swing. Shami had got the wicket of Lyon with the off stump going for a walk. Just as the players were celebrating, Ashwin sneaked up behind Shami and twisted his ears. The bowler screamed in pain for a bit before turning to Ashwin and giving a smile.


Khawaja and Handscomb lead Australia to 263 –

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first after the pitch is expected to be another low and slow turner. The Australian team were bowled out for 263, after their shambolic showing at Nagpur. The visitors were led by Usman Khawaja who scored 81 off 125 balls. The other lead scorer was Peter Handscomb who scored 72 not out off 142 balls with 9 fours in his knock.

Shami leads the bowling charts –

For India, it was Mohammad Shami who did the damage with the ball he picked 4/60 from his 14.4 overs. Shami began with the wicket of David Warner caught by KS Bharat for 15. Head was the next to go for 12 when KL Rahul caught him off Shami at slips. The 32 year old Indian seamer then cleaned up the tail getting Lyon for 10 and Kuhnemann for 6.

Ashwin and Jadeja snare 3 each –

The middle part of the 1st session belonged to Ashwin, who got the wickets of Labuschagne for 18 and Smith for a 2nd ball duck. Ashwin then got the wicket of Alex Carey for a duck caught by Kohli. Jadeja picked his 250th test wicket when he got the wicket of Khawaja before getting the wickets of Pat Cummins for 33 and Todd Murphy for a duck.
