BCCI has announced the next edition of the Women’s IPL will be played in UAE between November 4th to 9th. The BCCI also announced the team captains. The women’s IPL which has been played for the last few seasons has seen an overwhelming response with Indian and international stars both taking part in this extravaganza. The three-team event this year like the Men’s tournament will be held in UAE. The BCCI announced the complete roster and team captains for the tournament. The three teams which will be taking part are Velocity, Trailblazers and Supernova.
Indian women to the lead the sides
Indian women cricket superstars have been chosen to lead the sides in this mini-tournament. In a press statement released the Supernova team will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The Trailblazers will be led by Smriti Mandhana and the Velocity will be led by superstar Indian woman cricketer Mithali Raj. The vice-captains of each team are also Indian cricketers who will be rubbing their shoulder with some of the most elite women cricketers to be playing currently.
The tournament schedule
The four-match tournament will see each team play each other once and the top two teams making the finals. The first match will be played on 4th November while the final will be played on the 9th. All the four matches will he played under lights at 7.30 PM IST. The players of the three teams will reach UAE in the third week of October and will be staying in the same hotel. The cricketers will undergo a mandatory quarantine period of 6 days with also testing being carried out for COVID-19.
A Showcase event
The women’s participation in this edition of the IPL seemed doubtful after the outbreak of the pandemic but now BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has made sure that the millions of ardent fans for Women’s cricket do not miss their favourite stars in action for a long time. The tournament will give the fans a chance to see their stars mix it up and showcase their talent and skill in this high octane form of the game. The schedule and squads for the tournament have been selected and released in the official BCCI website.
