1. Rohit Sharma -264 V/s Sri Lanka 2014-
The most destructive white ball batsman of this generation. Rohit Sharma treated a cricket crazy Eden Gardens crowd to a spectacle. He created a record of sorts in ODI cricket by scoring a world record 264 runs. After coming back from a lengthy layoff due to injury suffered in England middle of that year, he put the Sri Lankan bowlers to the sword by smashing them all over the famed turf of Kolkata. While slow to begin with, he scored a run ball 100, but the assault was just beginning as he scored the next 50 in 25 balls, reached 200 in taking 28 more deliveries to reach the mark for the second time in his career, and reaching 250 for the first time in Men’s ODI cricket for the first time. Rohit just took 15 deliveries to go from 200 to 250 in what proved to be a brutal assault on the tired Sri Lankan bowlers.
2. Martin Guptill- 237 not out V/s West Indies 2015 World Cup –
The 2015 world cup was a huge moment for a lot of Kiwi Cricketers of this generation as this was the first time they were able to play the showpiece event in front of their home fans. One man decided to take the bull by its horns and make the day his own was Martin Guptill. It was at Wellington facing a good West Indies attack in the 4th Quarter Final of that edition of the world cup, he unleashed an all-out attack against a spellbound west indies Cricket team. He was merciless on every bowler that day as he smacked and carted the West Indian bowlers all over the Wellington ground on that day which included 24 fours and 11 huge sixes resulting in a 143 run victory of the Kiwis to take them ahead in the tournament.
3. Amelia Kerr 232 Not out V/s Ireland 2018 –
Another kiwi making the list and not just any kiwi a gifted seventeen-year-old at that point of time. Amelia Kerr took the Irish women bowling to the cleaners, and at the age of 17 became the proud holder of the mantle of being the owner of the highest individual scorer in Women’s ODI cricket. She made headlines in New Zealand’s tour of England and Ireland, when during an ODI versus Ireland in Dublin She opened the batting also carrying her bat in a ultimate show of dominance when she scored, 232 off 145 deliveries with 31 fours and 2 maximums and in the process went past Belinda Clarke’s 21- year record for the highest score in Women’s ODI Cricket.
4. Belinda Clarke 229 Not Out V/s Denmark 1997-
The greatest Australian batswoman of her generation, not only opened the batting but also played the innings of a lifetime which many stand up and applaud and take notice at the sheer craftsman like innings the Aussie captain played on that day versus a less fancied Denmark Woman’s team in the 1997 World Cup. Opening the batting the Australian Captain scored a then world record of 229 runs off 155 balls and carried her bat throughout the innings and in an act of restraint and discipline she stroked 22 fours and no sixes. The innings is a stuff of legends that people still talk about to this day and took the women’s game to even greater heights and recognition due to that one Belinda Clarke innings.
5. Virender Sehwag – 219 V/S West Indies 2011 4th ODI Indore-
Virender Sehwag was a swashbuckling batsman who treated every format of the game as the same, and showed little respect to any bowler on his day. On a very flat surface at Indore on that day, he decided to make the day special by taking the West Indian bowlers apart for fun by stroking an entertaining and brutal of 219 off 149 balls He was the stand in captain for the game and it seemed as if he wanted to celebrate his captaincy by making a statement to the West Indian bowlers, and in the process took apart even Sunil Narine who was slowly making a name for himself. The brutal assault contained 25 fours and 7 huge sixes. There was a moment in the game where many thought he could score 250 because by the time he was dismissed for 219 in the middle of the 47th over he had wounded the pride and bowling figures of many West Indian bowlers who dared to bowl to him on that day.
6. Chris Gayle- 215 V/s Zimbabwe 2015 world cup-
There is no cricketing list which can be left complete without the name of the ‘’World Boss’’ Christopher Henry Gayle included in it. Gayle decided to treat the Manuka Oval crowd at Canberra to a Gayle Storm special with a magnificent 215 runs against Zimbabwe in the 2015 world cup in the process becoming the first West Indian batsman and the first batsman to score a double century in Men’s Cricket World Cup. After West Indies lost Dwayne Smith for a second ball Duck. Chris Gayle decided to make the stage his own along with Marlon Samuels who scored a century , they both added a further 372 runs to bat the Zimbabwe out of the game . None of the bowlers were spared as Gayle displayed his raw power with 10 fours and 16 huge sixes and in the process scoring the much coveted double century.
7. Fakhar Zaman – 210 Not out V/s Zimbabwe 2018.
Pakistan has always produced mercurial cricketers who have somehow managed to create a name for them and Fakhar Zaman is one of them. A year after helping Pakistan wins the Champions Trophy against India. He was in the mood to create another for himself and his nation as he became the first Pakistani batsman to stroke a double century on a very good batting track at Bulawayo against a Zimbabwe attack which can be termed decent at best. Opening the batting with Imam-Ul-Haq he put on 304 for the first wicket where his partner also scored a century but it was the innings of the Fakhar that stood as he carted, pulled, hooked and drove the Zimbabwean bowlers all over the ground. He reached his double hundred off 148 balls and when the innings ended he was unbeaten on 210 with 24 fours and 5 maximums.
8. Rohit Sharma 209 V/s Australia 2013.
2013 was a year Rohit Sharma wouldn’t want to forget in a hurry, as this was the year he finally was given a chance to not only open the innings for India but also he was scoring hundreds for fun and hasn’t looked back since. The series against Australia was tied at 2-2 when both the teams travelled to Bengaluru and what followed was power hitting and impeccable placement all mixed in one innings. He smacked 16 sixes which was an ODI world record as he scored 209 runs and put the Aussie bowlers to the sword. The innings not only redefined Rohit’s ODI batting but also made the world notice his growing prowess in the white ball format.
9. Rohit Sharma – 208 not out V/s Sri Lanka Mohali 2017.
There is something about Sri Lanka and Rohit Sharma that set his antenna tuned. Coming into open the batting and captaining the side in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, India was already 1-0 down, Rohit decided to change the course of the series by scoring an unbeaten 208 on that cloudy cold day at Mohali as he spared no bowler and went after them with disdain after a cautious start. If the Sri Lankan bowlers thought he was slow to begin with, he changed the momentum of the innings by smacking them all across the ground in a brutal innings which included 13 boundaries and 12 maximum hits. He not only carried his bat through the innings but also captained his side to a comprehensive win to level the series.
10. Sachin Tendulkar – 200 Not Out V/s South Africa Gwalior 2010
when south Africa took to field that day , they would not have imagined the wrong side of history they would be confined to on that day. The Greatest batsman of all time was in a mood to set the record straight on that day, and in an act of ultimate mastery he took control of the game and bossed over the South African bowlers and in the process becoming the first and perhaps the most deserved batsman to reach the coveted 200 run mark in ODI cricket. At 37 years he redefined ODI batting and re wrote the annals of the game, his masterly knock contained 25 fours and 3 huge maximums and it certainly did not dampen his reputation as the God of Cricket.
