Wankhede Stadium on Monday witnessed a cracker of a game between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings which saw a high scoring contest go down to the wire as Punjab held their nerves to win the game by 4 runs as Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson’s century nearly pulled off a heist to win the game against all odds.
Twitter reacts to Punjab’s win –
Once the match was over former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth took to twitter and wrote “What a match #IPL2021 is here @IamSanjuSamon that was truly one of the best knocks I have seen in the @IPL! What a knock for @rajasthanroyals but you guys are going to be dangerous this time round! Good for @punjankings to win this one! While political commentator Rahul Eswar wrote “what a match… even though u lost… you are winner @IamSanjuSamson” while some of the other fans took to twitter and wrote their admiration for the captain’s knock by Sanju Samson.
Punjab post a huge score –
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field, Mayank Agarwal was the first to fall for 14 runs as he fell to debutant Chetan Sakariya. This got Chris Gayle to the crease as he joined Rahul and added 67 runs for the second wicket before he fell for 40 caught by Ben Stokes off the bowling off Riyan Parag. This got Deepak Hooda to the crease and he unleashed hell on the Rajasthan bowlers as he scored 64 runs off 28 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. The duo added 105 runs in quick time before Hooda was dismissed by Chris Morris. KL Rahul fell for 91 in the last over of the innings while he looked good for a century.
Sanju Samson’s century goes in vain –
Chasing 222 to win Rajasthan lost Ben Stokes for 3rd ball duck, this got Sanju Samson to the crease as he first added 45 runs with Jos Buttler for the 3rd wicket and a further 53 runs with Shivam Dube for the 4th innings. The match saw momentum change when Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson added 52 runs in very quick time to get the match back into equal contest. Sanju Samson though kept the match in control but he could not see through the game.
Sanju Samson speaks about the loss –
Speaking about the loss after the game Sanju Samson said that he was out of words after the close loss but it was an unfortunate loss. He further said he couldn’t have done anything more and spoke about the bowlers from both the sides getting smacked for runs. Point to note…Samson came into bat in the first over and was there till the last ball of the innings. He came of age tonight I thought. First hundred in a run chase too. Let’s hope he can keep his form through the length of the IPL.#RRvsPBKS #SanjuSamson
