TATA IPL 2022 has been a topsy turvy season for KKR this season. The two time champs are still in with a shout to make it to the play-offs. KKR have played 13 games and have 12 points with just one game to go. The shreyas Iyer led side are 6th in the table before one final game against Lucknow Supergiants. The season began with a lot of promise for the KKR side but a bad run of results have seen them lose their momentum. Comments by the KKR captain about the CEO and the coach being involved in the team select hasn't helped the matters.
Former KKR player slams Brendon McCullum
Brendon McCullum knows a thing or two about the franchise. The former kiwi skipper began his IPL career in 2008 for the Shah Rukh Khan owned Side. Post his playing days hr has been with the knight riders franchise since 2019 as the coach. This season has followed a similar pattern to the last 2 where they have begun well but have faltered along the way. Former KKR player Salman Butt has now come out and slammed the kiwi for his tactics. " McCullum has some issues. He knows one way. He won't look at the pitch, the Venue, what we can score and how much we need for a particular opposition. He just says play freely, score quickly. He starts senseless cricket under the garb of fearless cricket sometimes. You need to give leverage to the team. When you make someone a captain he is allowed to make mistakes. captain is not your peon to follow all your orders"
KKR need a miracle to qualify -
Barring a miracle KKR will not qualify for the Play offs this season. The two time champs play against Lucknow Supergiants in their final game. KKR will also be looking for a new coach after it came to light that Brendon McCullum will be taking over as the English test team coach post the TATA IPL 2022 season. There will be questions asked about the captain as well after Iyer wasn't able to inspite the men from Kolkata to the play offs and a possible 3rd title this year.
