Cricket can be a cruel game for the players and the fans. Wednesday was one such day when one team was over the moon, while the other team were reduced to tears. The 66th game between KKR and LSG is one such example where the twists and turns were in full force. Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Lucknow by mere 2 runs to crash out of the tournament. This loss meant that 3 former champions, MI, CSK and KKR are now out of the play-off race.
The final bout and its combatants–
Marcus Stoinis is known for his big hitting skills and he has shown his prowess with the bat many times. Yesterday the Australian was handed the ball to defend 21 runs from 6 balls KL Rahul. Rinku Singh who has made a name for himself with the bat was the one at the strikers end.
Rinku Singh takes the bull by its horns –
With 21 needed from 6 balls, many would have given the bowling team the advantage. Rinku Singh though had other plans on his mind as he wanted to script history. The first ball went for a four followed by 2 sixes off the next two balls. This got the tensions high in the LSG camp with the equation now 5 runs from 3 balls. Stoinis had on two occasions seen the ball sail over his head for six.
The final three balls swings in favor of LSG –
In a matter of few minutes, the entire complexion of the game had changed and KKR now were dreaming. The dream of the qualification for the play-offs was not only alive but it was well within grasp. The 4th ball saw Rinku Singh scrape through for 2 runs to make 3 runs from 2 balls. It was surely KKR’s game wasn’t it. Evin Lewis though had other plans as he pulled off a screamer of a catch to send Rinku Singh back to the pavilion. This got Umesh Yadav into the crease with 3 needed from 1 ball and chance to be a hero. Stoinis though bowled a perfect slower ball, Yadav missed the line and the off-stump made contact with the turf.

There was pandemonium in the LSG camp as the bench got cleared and everyone were overjoyed with their qualification. Former KKR captain and current LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir was at is fiery best. All in all it was one of the best games we have seen for a while and certainly the best game of the season.
