Rajasthan Royals on Sunday won the game against Lucknow Super Giants to move into the 2nd place in the table. This win meant that RR now are firm favorites to finish in the 2nd place and play the first qualifier game against Gujarat Titans. Riyan Parag came in for criticism for his actions on the field from both the fans and the commentators. The youngster from Assam was slammed for his behavior and conducted during the end moments of the game which saw RR run out winners.
The story as it happened –
Riyan Parag is well known for his big hitting skills, as well his energetic presence in the field. He caught the attention of the fans for his celebration after taking the catch of Marcus Stoinis in the last over of the game. Just an over earlier, Parag had claimed a catch off the same batsman, but the 3rd umpire ruled it not out. When Stoinis was finally out, Parag acted as if he was going to touch the ball on the floor in an apparent dig at the 3rd umpire.
Riyan Parag responds to criticism from the commentators –
Two of the commentators who were on air at that time were, Matthew Hayden and Ian Bishop. The duo did not see the funny side to the way Parag had celebrated to the dismissal. Hayden on air said “I have got some advice for you young man, cricket is very very long game and we all have very long memories. Never ever tempt fate because it comes around quickly” While Ian Bishop commented “Future will determine that,”
Riyan Parag posts a tweet for his critics –
Parag is known for his activity in the social media, late on Monday night posted a tweet which was aimed at his critics. The youngster wrote “No one's gonna care in 20 years, soooo much more to life.... enjoy it.". The tweet was aimed at no one in particular and came out of the blue. This may prove yet another incident where the fans may have a go at him. Earlier this season, Parag was involved in an on-field scrap with Harshal Patel during the RR vs RCB game. Many Mumbai fans weren’t happy with the way he celebrated the wicket of Rohit Sharma earlier in the season, when RR won the game.
