TATA IPL 2022 might be enthralling the fans with its cricket as it reaches the business end. Despite the glitz and glamor of the T20 version of the game, Test cricket remains the holy grail. The longest format of the game is where people test their skills and every cricketer wants to play with the red ball. There are several Indian cricketers who have been pigeon-holed as white ball specialists. One such cricketer who has been having the time of his life in the IPL wants to don the whites and play test cricket for India.
Aiming to make his mark in test cricket –
31 year old Yuzvendra Chahal has stated his intention to play for India in the longest format of the game. The lanky leg spinner from Haryana has been in tremendous form with the ball during this IPL with over 20 wickets. Chahal was asked by ESPN Cricinfo about his aspirations to play test cricket to which he said “Definitely want to. I have taken 50 wickets in my last 10 Ranji Trophy matches. Definitely test cricket is my first priority. I think being called a test player has a different aura. A lot of players play ODIs and T20Is, but it is in test crocket where your skills and patience gets tested”
Can Chahal make it to the test team?
India next play a test match against England from the 1st of July at Birmingham. India are expected to field Ashwin and Jadeja as the lead spinners. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are expected to be the other 2 spinners. The last right arm leg spinner to play for India was Amit Mishra who played against England at Chennai in 2016. The inclusion of Chahal will give India a new dimension.
Chahal has played 31 domestic games for Haryana and picked 84 wickets with a best of 6 for 44. He has picked 2 five wicket hauls and 4 times four wicket hauls. He made his domestic debut in 2009 and played his last first class game in 2018 against Rajasthan. Chahal is a statement of Harshal Patel and Rahul Tewatia.
