Sunil Gavaskar draws flak for his comments on Shimron Hetmyer

Rajasthan Royals were a happy bunch on Friday after the win over Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium. The 2008 champs win meant that they climbed to 2nd in the table and will now play the first qualifier on Tuesday against Gujarat Titans. Rajasthan Royals showcased their good form through out the season that they shown to claim a five wicket win over the defending champions. Amidst all the cricketing action, former Indian stalwart Sunil Gavaskar has found himself in the line of fire for his comments which he made on-air.

Sunil Gavaskar’s comments on Hetmyer –

West Indian batsman Shimron Hetmyer has been a huge part of Rajasthan Royals team this season. The young left hander has played some crucial knocks in the league phase, which enabled RR to reach the play-offs. The 25 year old recently missed a few games to welcome the birth of his first child. Sunil Gavaskar yesterday on live broadcast said “Hetmyer’s wife has delivered, will he deliver for Rajasthan Royals”. The apparent try at word play wasn’t taken too nicely by the fans on the social media. The Indian stalwart was slammed for his comments by fans.

Hetmyer’s season so far –

Hetmyer began his IPL career with RCB, before going on to play a few seasons for Delhi. At the end of last season he was cut by Delhi and picked by Rajasthan, during the IPL auctions earlier this year. The former Under-19 world cup winner has played 12 games this season and scored 297 runs. He has scored 1 half century and has a strike rate of 163. This is the most runs he has scored in a season and he bettered his 242 run tally from 14 games last year for Delhi.
