IPL Auction 2023: Meet the youngest player from Afghanistan who is turning heads

TATA IPL 2023 season is widely being anticipated and the first pit stop is the auctions. The TATA IPL 2023 auctions will take place on the 23rd December as 405 players are set to go under the hammer.  From 991 names, the list has been pruned to the current 405 names.

Out of those 405 names, 8 Afghanistan players are set to go under the hammer. None is more exciting than 15 year old Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar who is practically turning heads and could be one of the players to watch out for.

Who is this 15 year old Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar ?

Born on 15th July 2007, Ghazanfar is a right arm off break bowler. Even though he is just 15, he is already above 6 foot tall. He started his career as a fast bowler but then took to spin bowling. Speaking to the media he said “I started with tennis ball cricket and would play in my neighborhood, but under the guidance of my coach, I started bowling spin, and soon, I developed an action, and there hasn’t been any looking back since”

Starry dreams for the youngster –

With the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman becoming a household name in the IPL, Ghazanfar wants to join his Afghan teammates in the IPL. The youngster doesn’t want to stop short at the IPL he also wants to play for his national.

Ghazanfar can pick up Hindi when spoken but cannot converse in the language but this will not stop the youngster from dreaming big. Further speaking to the media he said “ have played a fair bit of junior cricket, and my ultimate target is to play for Afghanistan. The IPL will help me improve my game as I would be able to learn quite a few things from the Indian and overseas players, and I am really looking forward to the experience. I hope to get picked by a franchise,”

Big future ahead –

Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar has played 3 T20 games and picked 5 wickets so far. his best figures of 4/15 came during the Shpageeza League 2022 while playing for Mis Ainak Knights against the Hindukush stars. He was part of the team which had stars like Mohammad Shahzad, Asghar Afghan and Gulabadin Naib all international stars.

Ghazanfar finally rounded off saying to the media “I love challenging the batters with my spin, and the experience of playing in the Shpageeza League has been immensely valuable, I played a fair amount of junior cricket, and I feel that I have the talent to perform at the higher level”
