Indian Cricket: Mayank Agarwal taken to hospital after getting hit on the head

Indian cricket is seeing the men in blue get ready for the 2022 T20 World Cup with a series against South Africa. The country is also witnessing Irani Trophy game between Rest of India versus Saurashtra. The Saurashtra side were the Ranji Trophy champs for the 2019/20 season. This game is being used as a chance for the fringe players to show their worth to make a case for themselves for national selection.

The story as it happened –

Mayank Agarwal the 31 year old Indian opener is trying to make a comeback to the Indian side. Agarwal is part of the Rest of India side which is playing against Saurashtra in the Irani Trophy game. The incident happened towards the end of day 2 when a throw from one of the ROI players hit Agarwal flush on the head. The 31 year old went down and sat on his haunches before walking off the field.

Mayank Agarwal fine after scans conducted –

Sportstar first reported the incident as journalist Amol Karhadkar reported on twitter. The scribe wrote “Mayank Agarwal has left for the hospital for a precautionary scan after being hit on the head with a throw just before the start of Saurashtra’s second innings. Precautionary is the key word over here”. Amol further reported that Agarwal’s scan reports came out normal. “Mayank Agarwal’s scan reports are ‘normal’. No internal injury detected”.


 

Agarwal’s poor run in recent times –

Mayank Agarwal has endured a poor run with the bat during the ongoing Irani Trophy game. Playing for Rest of India in the 1st innings Agarwal could manage just 11 runs off 14 balls before Chetan Sakariya got his wicket. In the Duleep Trophy final against West Zone, Agarwal could score only 9 and 14. In the previous game against North, the attacking right hander had scored 49 and 64.

Agarwal’s India career so far –

Mayank Agarwal made his India test debut in 2018 during the Boxing Day test at MCG and scored an imperious half century on debut. In 21 tests so far, Agarwal has scored 1488 runs with an average of 41. He has hit 4 centuries including 2 doubles tons against South Africa and Bangladesh. He scored his career best 243 against Bangladesh at Indore. Agarwal last played for India against Sri Lanka earlier this year at his home ground in Bengaluru. Agarwal has also played 5 ODI matches for India scoring 86 runs with a best of 32. His last ODI game was against Australia in late 2020 at SCG.
