Indian player under injury cloud ahead of the Zimbabwe Series

s

Indian cricket team is on its way to Zimbabwe as they get ready to play a quick 3 match ODI series starting 18th August. The team will be led by Shikhar Dhawan who had led the men in blue to a series whitewash win over West Indies. This will be the last series that many of the big name Indian players get a rest before the prestigious Asia Cup which begins end of August. The tour of Zimbabwe will provide a huge chance for many of the young players who are on the fringes of selection, and the tour also provides a good chance for some of the players who are coming back from injury to stake a claim for a place in the final squad for the T20 world cup to be played in Australia starting this October.

The story as it happened -

22 year old all rounder Washington Sundar has injured his shoulder while on his playing stint for Lancashire. The injury occurred on Wednesday 10th August, when Lancashire played Worcestershire. Lancashire took to Twitter and wrote "@sundarwashi5 has left the field after receiving treatment on his left shoulder following a heavy fall". SUndar has been playing for the Manchester based club in a bid to regain his spot in the Indian team.

Injury riddled career so far -

Washington Sundar made his India debut aged 18 when he played the ODI series against Sri Lanka in late 2017. He had made his debut under Rohit Sharma and since then been in and out of the side. Sundar, on the back of his impressive IPL stints was soon given his T20 debut. In early 2021 he made his test debut at Brisbane and scored an impressive 60 on his test debut. Sundar then played few more games in the longest format of the game and scored a memorable 90 odd not out in the Ahmedabad test. Sundar hasnt played for India in any of the formats since 2021. He has been having medical related issues as well as injuries too have played a part.

Yet another setback on the comeback trail -

Sundar along with Deepak Chahar was named in the Indian squad under Dhawan to play the three match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The three match series is slated to begin on 18th August and this latest injury puts a huge cloud over the potential participation of Sundar and his latest bid to make a comeback to the Indian squad.
