The Indian cricket season is well and truly on, as the selectors picked the squad for the two match T20 series against Ireland. The team will be captained by Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice captain of the side. There was a maiden call up for Rahul Tripathi and a recall to the side for Sanju Samson. One player though has been ignored yet again, and that is none other than Rahul Tewatia. The left hander was a huge part of the success for GT this year with the bat.

Rahul Tewatia’s tweet sums it up –

India is set to play two T20’s against Ireland on June 26th and 28th, while the senior squad is in England. The 2 match series will witness the likes of Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Ishan Kishan, Umran Malik and so on. Rahul Tewatia who played a crucial role in the title triumph for GT has been snubbed yet again. The 29 year old took to twitter and wrote “Expectations hurt” .

Rahul Tewatia’s unfulfilled India dream –

Rahul Tewatia over the last couple of years, has come close to India selection. He was picked for the Indian team after an impressive IPL 2020. He had to be dropped later due to the fact he wasn’t able to get his fitness cleared. This happened twice to the 29 year old who can not bowl decent leg spin but also wield the willow to good effect.

Tewatia and his IPL numbers this year –

Rahul Tewatia was let go by RR last year and was picked by GT and he played some amazing knocks during the 2022 season. Tewatia began by smacking 2 sixes off 2 balls to win a last ball thriller over PBKS. He then played a crucial knock against SRH to guide GT to yet another thrilling win along with Rashid Khan. In 16 games that he played, Tewatia scored 217 runs with an average of 31 and a strike rate of 147. This was his best haul in terms of runs since the 255 he scored during the IPL 2020 edition.

Rahul Tewatia and his fans would hope for the Indian selectors to keep him under consideration with so many matches lined up this year. Till then the 29 year old can just keep biding his time, waiting for the call to come his way.
