Ranji Trophy 2022: Easy wins for Mumbai, Gujarat and UP on the 3rd day of 2nd round of matches

It was yet another result oriented day as the Ranji Trophy 2022 saw it its 2nd round of games head to completion. Here is a quick recap of all the action that happened

Completed games –

Meghalaya beat Sikkim by 10 wickets

Mizoram beat Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 118 runs

MP beat Chandigarh by an innings and 125 runs

Abandoned game –

Punjab vs Railways was abandoned due to dangerous pitch conditions, the match was restarted on Thursday at the same Karnail Singh Stadium but on a different pitch. It is now a two day match between the two teams.

Delhi vs Assam – Guwahati

Overnight score – Assam 158/4 (trails Delhi by 281 runs).

It was a day to remember for Assam as Rishav Das and Gokul Sharma struck impressive centuries. Das scored 160 (229B 21x4 and 1x6), while Sharma scored 140 (299B 20x4). The pair added 236 runs for the 5th wicket before Delhi bowlers picked some quick wickets. At Stumps the home team had S. Sarmah batting on 16 and M. Hussain batting on 40.

Assam trail Delhi by 4 runs with 2 wickets left

UP vs Nagaland – Dimapur

Overnight score – Nagaland were 44/6 needing 371 runs to avoid Follow-On

Srikant Mundhe score 98 as Nagaland were bowled out for 185 after starting the day at 6/44. Mundhe hit 16 fours in his innings as the UP bowlers prized out an easy win during the course of the 3rd day.

UP win the match by an innings and 230 runs.

Bengal vs HP – Kolkata

Overnight score – Bengal -89/1 were leading HP by 269 runs

Bengal pressed home their advantage to set Himachal Pradesh 472 to win in the 4th innings. Sudip Gharami scored 101 (166 B 12x4), while Manoj Tiwary scored 50 off 83 balls to help Bengal reach 291 before declaring their innings. Chasing 472 to win, HP lost Raghav Dhawan for 14. At stumps, Prashant Chopra was on 44 with Ankit Kalsi on 17.

Himachal Pradesh needs 393 runs to win with 9 wickets left

Vidarbha vs Tripura – Nagpur

Overnight score – Tripura 290/7 were leading by 26 runs

Vidarbha bowlers made light work of Tripura after bowling them out for 299 just adding 9 runs to their overnight score. Trailing by 35 runs, Vidarbha batters scored at over 4 runs per over to end the day with a pretty lead. Ganesh Satish was 142* (198B 18x4 and 1x6). Satish was supported by Akshay Wadkar who scored 88 (117b 9x4 and 1x6).

Vidarbha leads Tripura by 313 runs with 4 wickets left

Gujarat vs Jammu and Kashmir – Ahmedabad

Overnight score – Jammu and Kashmir were 83/3 trailing Gujarat by 89 runs.

After his 6 wicket haul in the 1st innings, Siddharth Desai picked 8/66 to take his match figures to 14/102. J and K were bowled out for 182 adding just 99 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Henan Nazir with 43 and Vivrant Sharma with 41 were the top scorers. Chasing 11 to win, the wicket of Priyank Panchal for 0 denied Gujarat a bonus point.

Gujarat wins the match by 9 wickets

Karnataka vs Puducherry – Bengaluru

Overnight score – PDC were 59/3 trailing KAR by 76 runs

4 wickets for Ronit More and 3 wickets for V.Vyshak helped Karnataka bowl out Puducherry for 127 just before lunch. For the visiting side Jay Pande top scored with 25.

Karnataka wins by an innings and 7 runs.

Haryana vs Baroda – Vadodara

Overnight score – HAR were 70/1 trailing BRD by 545 runs with 9 wickets in hand

Baroda bowlers bowled out Haryana for 278 despite a blistering century by Nishant Sidhu who scored 110 (100B 15x4 and 2x6). Haryana were asked to follow on as they lost two more wickets with Ankit Kumar out for 55, while Y. Singh was not out 54.

Haryana needs 189 runs with 8 wickets left to avoid innings defeat.

Odisha vs Uttarakhand – Dehradun

Overnight – UTK were 308/3 leading by 95 runs

Jiwanjot Singh scored an amazing 218 (363B 35x4) as Swapnil Singh scored 65 and Aditya Tare scored 57 before Uttarakhand were bowled out for 477, taking a lead of 264. In the 2nd innings, Odisha were 97/4 at stumps as A. Sarangi was not out on 59.

Odisha trails UTK by 167 runs with 6 wickets left

Andhra vs TN – Coimbatore

Overnight score – TN were 273/4 trailing by 24 runs

Tamil Nadu could add only 68 runs to their overnight score before beimg dismissed for 345. armed with a 48 run lead, TN bowlers had the visitors 5 down with Ricky Bhui batting on 62, 

Andhra leads TN by 114 runs with 5 wickets left 

Hyderabad vs Mumbai - Mumbai 

overnight score - HYD were 173/6 trailing mumbai by 473 runs . 

Shams Mulani picked 7/94 to bowl out HYD for 214 in the 1st innings,asked to follow the visitors were bowled out for 220 in the second innings as Tanush Kotian Picked 5 wickets to spin Mumbai to an easy win. 

Mumbai wins the game by an innings and 217 runs 

Maharashtra vs Saurashtra - Rajkot 

overnight score - MAH were 472/7 

Chirag Jani and Chetan Sakariya ran through the bottom half of the batting order as Maharashtra were all out for 472. In reply, the home team had 2 half centuries.  Harvik Desai scored 78, while Sheldon Jackson scored 81. At Stumps, Vasavada was not out 36 with Vyas on 42

Saurashtra trails Maharashtra by 218 runs with 4 wickets left 

Chhattisgarh vs Services - Delhi 

overnight score - CHG were 280/5 leading by 67 runs 

Amandeep Khare's 125 and Ajay Mandal's 114 helped Chhattisgarh reach 389 to take a lead of 176 runs. In reply, Services had lost 4 wickets as GR Singh scored 71 and Rajat Paliwal was at the crease . 

Services trails CHG by 31 runs with 6 wickets left 

Jharkhand vs Goa - Jamshedpur 

overnight score - Goa were 99/4 trailing JHA by 287 runs. 

Goa started the day 4 down and batted the entire day yet fell 24 run short of the 1st innings score by Jharkhand. The visitors reached 362 thanks to 73 by EKnath Kerkar and 71 by Darshan Misal. For the hosts, 4 wickets each by Shahbaz Nadeem and Utkarsh Singh did the trick with the ball.
