Syed Mushtaq Ali 2022: Round 4 results of the group phase matches

Tuesday 18th October, 2022 saw the 4th round of games for the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2022 tournament take place. The eyes were on early leaders and pacer setters and some amazing performances with the bat and ball during this round.

Assam vs Railways –

Riyan Parag’s unbeaten 49 off 37 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes was the highlight of the Assam innings. Rishav Das with 35 was the 2nd top scorer as Assam posted 134 on the board. Shivam Chaudhary with 62 off 53 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes along with Pratham Singh’s 38 saw Railways to an easy win.

Goa vs UP –

Fancied UP were upset by Goa as they failed to chase the 132 run score that was set. Batting first, Goa scored 131 with Eknath Kerkar top scoring with 31, K. Snehal (26), Prabhudesai (24) and T. Sawkar (23) were the other contributors. Rinku Singh with 38 and A. Nath’s 29 was the top two scores for UP as Arjun Tendulkar took 2 wickets, while Lakshay Garg took 4 to help Goa win the game.

Goa win the match by 9 wickets

Haryana vs J and K –

Haryana won the toss and chose to bowl first to make use of the early conditions. Abdul Samad top scored 41 off 26 balls to help Jammu and Kashmir reach 134. Dinesh Bana top scored with 43, while Tewatia 29* and Sumit Kumar 33* helped Haryana take home all the points.

Bengal vs Sikkim –

West Bengal won the toss and chose to bat first and scored an imposing 179 on the board. S. Gharami top scored with 56, while Shahbaz Ahmed scored 43. Wicket keeper A. Pan scored 34 off 12 balls with a four and 4 sixes. Ashish Thapa 21 and Pankaj Rawat’s 15 was the only two double figures for Sikkim in their massive loss.

Bengal win the match by 84 runs

Chhattisgarh vs Chandigarh –

The match at Lucknow saw Chandigarh elect to bat after winning the toss. Manan Vohra top scored with 52, while Raj Bawa scored 30 help Chandigarh reach 150 on the board. 73* by A. Khare and 60* by skipper HS Bhatia helped Chhattisgarh win the match with 10 balls to spare.

Nagaland vs Gujarat –

Gujarat won the toss and chose to bowl first and bundled out Nagaland for only 119. S. Mundhe (45), Jonathan (24) and Akash Singh 17 were the top scorers. Chasing 120, Gujarat won with 61 balls to spare thanks to Saurav Chauhan who hit 84* off 35 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes.

Andhra vs Bihar –

Andhra Pradesh snuck home to a tight win over Bihar at the Holkar Stadium. Bihar batted first after winning the toss. Bipin Saurabh and Babul Kumar added 118 for the 1st wicket with Saurabh scoring 52, while Kumar scored 72. Sakibul Gani 33* helped Bihar reach 181. Karan Shinde struck 75 off 38 balls, while R. Bhui scored 37 to help Andhra win the close game.

Karnataka vs Arunachal –

It was a walk in the park for Karnataka as they strolled past Arunacjal. The Karnataka bowlers bundled out Arunachal for mere 75. Mayank Agarwal with 47* off 21 balls and Padikkal with 28 saw the team to a win with 79 balls to spare.

Karnataka win the match by 10 wickets

Punjab vs Manipur –

Mayank Markande with 4/4 helped Punjab bundle out Manipur for mere 40. Shubman Gill with 7 was the only wicket to fall as Punjab romped home to a win with 87 balls to spare.

Punjab win the match by 9 wickets

Mizoram vs MP –

Kamal Tripathi with 4/11 helped MP restrict Mizoram to 94 from their 20 overs. Shubham Sharma with 31 and S. Patidar saw MP win with 47 balls to spare.

MP win the match by 6 wickets

Mumbai vs Rajasthan –

Ajinkya Rahana marked his return with 1st ball duck as Mumbai scored 159 on the board. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the top scorer with 46, while Sarfaraz Khan scored 37 and Shivam Dube scored 26. Mahipal Lomor’s 46 went in vain as Mumbai bowlers kept it tight to win the game easily. Salman Khan with 35 was the other top scorer.

Mumbai win the match by 20 runs

Delhi vs Hyderabad –

Yash Dhull top scored with 73 off 36 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes as Delhi scored massive 196 on the board. Himmat Singh(47), and 20’s by Dalal and Badoni were the other contributors. Navdeep Saini with 4/17 ensured an easy win for Delhi, as Rahul Buddhi with 47 top scored for Hyderabad.

Maharashtra vs Kerala –

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his 2nd ton in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament for Maharashtra. Gaikwad scored 114 off 68 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes to help Maharashtra reach 167. Chasing 168 only K. Rohan with 58 and two other batters managed double figures. Sanju Samson was out for just 3 as Kerala lost the game.

Maharashtra win the match by 40 runs

Jharkhand vs TN –

TN batting first scored 138 on the board Sai Sudarshan top scored with 47. Ishan Kishan 24, P.K. Kumar with 33 and Virat Singh with 52 put Jharkhand on course to a win over the defending champs. A middle order collapse meant TN won the game with ease in the end. Sai Kishore with 3/6 did the damage with the ball for TN.

TN win the match by 12 runs

HP vs Saurashtra –

Jaydev Unadkat’s 31st birthday ended with him on the losing side to HP. Nikhil Gangta with 54 and A. Vashisth with 37 helped HP score 157 on the board. Pujara was the top scorer with 57 off 38 with 7 fours and 2 sixes for Saurashtra. Rishi Dhawan picked 3 wickets as HP won the game and took home the points

HP win the game by 13 runs

Services vs Meghalaya –

Batting first, Punit Bisht with 42 and S. Das with 38 saw Meghalaya reach 148 from the 20 overs. Services were struggling at 26/3 but Vikas Hathwala with 55 and A. Gupta with 44 saw services win the game with an over to spare.

Services win the match by 5 wickets

Tripura vs Pondicherry –

B. Das with 61 off 56 balls with 5 fours and Sudip Chatterjee with 46 top scorer for Tripura to help them score 159. P. Sultan’s 3/20 helped Tripura restrict Pondicherry to 136 and win the match.

Tripura win the match by 23 runs

Vidarbha vs Uttarakhand –

The final game of the day was a close contest which went down to the wire. Vidarbha scored 157 thanks to 36 by Taide and 35 by Wadkar. Jitesh Sharma scored a brisk 20 ball 34. Yash Thakur with 4/22 helped Vidarbha win the match by a close margin of 2 runs. Aditya Tare top scored for Uttarakhand witn 46, while A. Sudha was the 2nd highest scorer with 43.
